How I Have Kept 125 lbs off for 3 years

In 2012, I decided I needed to make a lifestyle change. I was 285 lbs, struggled with higher than normal blood pressure, ate a diet rich in fast food and soda's, and was beginning to suffer with knee pain due to carrying the extra weight.

I joined MFP under another account in February of 2012, and began to log faithfully. Every little bit of food that went into my mouth was first weighed, and then logged. I prepared meals in advance of days I knew I would not have time to cook, and if I couldn't prep a meal, I would do my best to eat at restaurants that provided nutritional information for their food.

I also joined a gym and started walking on a treadmill for 45 minutes a day. Soon, walking turned into running, and in June of 2012 I ran my first 5K. 5K's then turned to 10K's and the next thing I knew I was training for my first Half-Marathon. I ran my first Half in 1:53:00, and three months later I ran my second Half in 1:35:37.

By February of 2013 I was down to 160 lbs. This February will mark 3 years that I have successfully kept the weight off. While I am not so strict in logging, I do still log my food. I also exercise on a regular basis. MFP has taught me a lot about nutrition, calorie content, and what foods energize me and what foods make me feel sluggish. Most importantly, MFP has taught me that I can do anything I put my mind to.

If I can do this... you can too!
