I suck at meal planning and I hate to cook

I think I found something that works for me! Because I hate to cook, I all ways wait to eat till I am so hungry I am dizzy. Then I eat everything in site that is easy like; T.V. dinners, boxed noodle & sauce, and the worst is fast food. I am not good at meal planning because me and my man have opposite work schedules and I hate cooking for just myself. Last night I just cooked up a storm! Now all I have to do is grab a container of noodles, rice, chicken breast, turkey burger, broccoli, melon, and what ever else and make a plate. I can come home from work at 11p.m. starving and eat healthy! Just grab my measuring cups and scale and make a plate! No reason to stop and get fast food or have to wait a half hour while I cook a meal! My man loves it too! I am excited... lol silly but I am.
What works for you? Any suggestions for someone who is addicted to fast food? Any suggestions for someone who doesn't like to cook?

This is really great!! Super happy for you! I plan my meals too.. actually I just started like a week ago, and it's showing great results! I really stick to what I had planned to eat for that day. :flowerforyou:0

That was my problem, too. I've retrained myself to have healthy snacks throughout the day whether I think I'm hungry or not, and always have some pre-made food. It makes it so much easier to make good decisions!
Glad you found a way to make things easier for yourself! Good luck with your continued progress0 -
Great idea I so need to start cooking up a storm on the weekends so I can do the same thing during the week. During the week I don't have time to cook, and I hate it too.0

Some frozen meals aren't that bad for you like lean cuisine or something like that, also. I make chicken breast and its super easy! Buy the bag of boneless, skinless chicken breast at the store, pull out a chicken breast to dethaw (then you can just cook for you or since you do it on the weekend you can cook the whole bag and put them in the fridge) put it in the pan once its thawed ( just take it out the day before), put picante sauce on it, stick it in the oven at 350 for 20-30 minutes. then tada. Also couscous is yummy, healthy, and quick. boil spice packet (included) some olive oil (box will tell you), and water, stir in couscous, cover, remove from heat, let sit 5 minutes, stir and enjoy. They go great together!0

I'm the same way. I like that idea. I've done things similar, smaller amount but similar. I eat a lot of pre-packaged food. I know it's not the best thing, but it works for me. I look for healthier options. Sometimes I do something like grill a small steak, cut & roast squash, and make some quick brown rice. Only the rice is "pre-packaged" that way. It's one of my favorite meals and I can eat the squash and rice for a few days.
I think that once I get back to the store, I'll probably start to cook more. Maybe I'll do more things like you did.0 -
NSV that will turn in to a scale victory. Great planning.0

I go to the farmer's market on Saturdays and load up on fruit, veggies and hummus. Then I come home and prep berries, carrots and broccoli for the week, so I can grab them quickly at meal times. I also like to try and cook a healthy version of homemade (from scratch) waffles or pancakes on the week-ends and then eat them during the week. Whenever I cook rice or pasta I also make a whole batch and then freeze the leftovers for quick meals later in the week. Meal planning the night before helps keep me on track the next day.0

I think you are on the right track, well done!
Another good thing to do, is when you do manage to cook something, make it enough to serve 2,4 even 6 meals, and make it something you can freeze. That way you only have to cook once, but will have enough food in your freeze to last for other meals. This works really well with soup, pasta sauces, stews, currys, stewed fruit, lots of mince dishes. even just plain rice and pasta all portioned up..
Another freezer idea is to buy some meat, and freeze it into meal size portions, that way you only have to defrost a small bit (either remember to take it out in the morning, or microwave it) cook it up and dinners made quickly and easily, then you can have it with frozen veggies and whatever else you want
Make your freezer your friend!0 -

I do this. Once a week I prep what I will eat for the week. i even cut up any veg i may want to add to a salad. It takes all too tired to cook drama away. I also buy almonds in bulk and sort them into ziploc snack bags. Keep a few in the glove compartment of the car. If I am out running errands I have no excuse to hit a drive thru or buy a candy bar.0
