You can do it! I quit 8 years ago. It is, without a doubt, the single best thing you can do for yourself. I know it sucks now, but it does get better...

I have been there.. it's only hard for a little while, and then it's all mental. If you make up your mind that a change has happened, then you force yourself to adapt to that change. I am wishing you luck. Someday, this message will be from you, to someone else out there.. and you will wish, from the very bottom of your heart that they too would be successful, because you will know that it can be done, and how. Congrats!

its not an easy thing to do, but it is possible. I quit July 19, 2010 and I am SO happy I did. It took me countless times over about a 4 year time spane, but I had the mind set and told myself "enough is enough" .... you can do it too.
  • Guess the (hopefully) is just hanging in my mind from countless other attempts, but I've never tried it with the help of MFP. Hoping that makes the difference.

you can absolutely do it! i was a hard core smoker for 25 years, and am now 6 months smoke free. if i can do it anyone can. a wonderful side effect of this website is it kept my mind busy counting calories and exercise and gave me something to focus on besides wanting to smoke. slap on a nicotine patch for a good backup and get busy living!

I had my last cig, at 9pm on the 14th March 2011. After 30 + years of smoking and a trillion times trying to give up.. I can't believe how horrid smokers smell, and I was one of them.
I enjoy have the extra cash in my purse, no popping to the shops for *kitten* and what ever.
    You can do it

I've never tried smoking, as I watched my grandmother on an oxygen pump due to smoking induced emphysema and the image never went away. I never understood why other family members continued to smoke when they had seen it too, but the fact was no matter how much I nagged/cried/yelled they needed to decide for themselves.

Some of them since have stopped and they were like you: they decided they were not going to be smokers anymore. Ditch the hopefully, you have made a decision. Every time you struggle, think of the better health, nicer smell, more money etc etc. Ask the forums for encouragement. I don't know you but if I can help in any way at all to prevent a living hell for someone else then I will. Good luck. You don't need luck though, it's just determination now. Stay strong (( ))
  • My bf went to visit family out of state until monday or tuesday and my kids are with a friend staying the night until monday, and there;s noone here but me. Nothing to bug me but my own mind during the days the nicotine is still in me is why I chose now even though I still have 2 unopened packs in the freezer. Will tell my bf to trade them for his when he gets back because I don't need them.
  • I watched my grandma suffer from emphasema too and she didnt quit until 2 days before she died because she couldnt breathe enough to smoke them. I refuse to hold onto them that long.

Hi. I quit four years ago on St. Patrick's Day. Like others have said, I hate the smell of smoke left on clothes, can't stand to get the smell of it in my hair. I had quit when I was pregnant, but this time I just have not had the desire to smoke, not even when socially drinking.

Good luck, be strong. Will power...mind over matter.
  • Thanks a lot. Everyone's replies help.
  • 7+ hours without a cigarette so far.
