10k steps without even trying?

It's my day off work. I went out of the house to get car fixed and go shopping. I walked 1.2 miles while car was getting fixed according to google maps but, that only accounts for like 2k steps. Can just day to day activity add up to 10k steps?

And all day busy around my house can easily get me 10,000 steps especially if I go to the grocery store that morning. To answer your question

Yeah i was just not sure because i walked to a shop and bought too much stuff and kept transferring it from arm to arm to keep from one shoulder getting too bad. Wasn't sure if i just added steps doing that or what.

I have consistently gotten >10k steps per day ever since I got my fitbit (years ago), but I do not have a car and do have a dog, these two factors affect it quite a bit obviously. I have the FB one, which you wear on your body and it is pretty accurate but even the wrist ones should be reasonably close, no matter what you do with your arms.

Sure. Used to hit it working as a survey assistant all the time, when there was work.

now that I have a desk job, I have to put in a little extra effort to hit all my steps. I walk on all my breaks and the dog gets over a mile walk in the morning as well as gym time.

If you've got a busy day, you can absolutely get 10k with little effort. I'm the opposite though, if I've got a day off I have to deliberately go to the treadmill/take a long walk to get it in.

I think because of the bumps while driving no tracker could really leave out all steps while driving. I've looked before and I think a short drive around town typically gets me 20 steps or so that I didn't really take, but in the long run it's not a number significant enough to worry me.

    10k steps a day for me is a slow day. I usually get 15k - 20k steps a day.

Yeah I work at a grocery store putting stuff away at the end of the day. It's easy. I was just surprised when I got 10k steps on my day off when i was planning to just stay in bed all day. But, then when i walked to get my morning coffee and realized my pants where just barely above my penis I realized it was time to go out and buy new pants. Oh and i totally forgot i walked to starbucks and grocery store this morning. Ooops. That probably accounts for how i got the steps.

I regularly get 14 k steps a day. But I have a very active job. On my days off I get more like 3-8k.

My short walk around the little block with my dog, done 3 times a day, is around 1200 steps each time. So, that is 3600.
It is close to 900 steps, and 3 flights, from my desk to where I park my car, so another 1800.
It is about 800 steps, and 3 flights, to the lunchroom, so another 1600.
So there is 7000 without trying to do anything, except walk the dog, and spend a day at work sitting at my desk.

Sure. Years and years ago when the 10,000 steps a day thing first became popular I bought what was then a top-of-the-line pedometer, only to be a bit surprised and disappointed that I was regularly blowing well past 10,000 steps a day in the course of my normal activity.
