Health improvement successes

I'm really interested in hearing success or progress stories related to improved health. I've seen a few inspiring posts where people got off their blood pressure meds or had greatly improved breathing, but was surprised to even see things like improved skin and hair noted.

I love the idea that I could maybe be off my thyroid medication at some point but also I just find the breadth and depth of health improvements fascinating, and really motivating!

My blood pressure has gone from high to low normal in a month. I've also been on steroids for a while for a chronic condition and have managed to more than halve my dose in the past 6 weeks. Slowly working on reducing all the way to 0!

I got off diabetes medication through weight loss and running. My A1C is in the normal range and my fasting sugar is averaging in the 70's and 80's.

I was on two blood pressure medications, a statin for cholesterol, and have been pre-diabetic for several years. My doctor took me off of one blood pressure medication in November, and I am no longer pre-diabetic. He said that he wants to wait until my next check-up in May to make sure my numbers are steady, at which point he will remove the other two medications. I have gone from 230 pounds to a current weight of 162 pounds, with a goal of 135 (although I may stop before then, depending on how I am looking - weight loss has not been kind to my 60 year-old face).

The health benefits have been my priority since I began, and losing weight has paid off. I don't exercise.

These are all so encouraging! Being healthier is my priority especially with a younger child and as I approach 40. I "feel" the weight a lot more now. Even putting on ten lbs this fall and winter was making me feel noticeably sluggish and just plain old/crappy/unhealthy.

I lowered my blood pressure and stopped snoring/sleep apnea by quitting smoking (didn't smoke much but still), getting some moderate exercise every week and losing a little over 10% of my body weight since 2014. Even gradual small changes will add up.

Good luck getting healthy. You can definitely do it. MFP really opened my eyes to how much I was over eating.

This is me too! I felt so crappy all the time. With four little ones (ages 7, 4, 2 & 1) I wanted to set a good example for them. With 40 in the rear view mirror I also wanted to get healthy so I could watch them grow up.

I had a fasting blood sugar at 119 & my cholesterol at 272. After a 45 lb loss I was retested and my fasting blood sugar was in the 90's and my cholesterol is now 189. I am now down 60 lbs and working towards 40 more. I am also enjoying my running more now that I'm a bit lighter!!
