Portion Sizes

Hi All,

I restarted my MFP Journey recently and am struggling a little to adjust to smaller portions. I think its purely psychological as I know I'm not still hungry after eating, but I'm so used to eating until I feel "full" my head is telling me to go and get the other portion of spaghetti I have put aside for my lunch tomorrow!

Do you have any tips for getting through what I can only assume will be a phase!?

Have you tried drinking lots of water? It definitely helps me out.

Your right, it's just a phase caused by a habit. Stick to stopping until your satisfied and not stuffed or full for a couple days or weeks and you will get used to it. It's just like breaking a habit(:

Maybe drinking a glass of water before your meal?

    Using smaller plates, perhaps.

Don't eat too quickly. Let your stomach "catch up." I really have to work on this (so bad).

I like to "extend" portion sizes by using veggies as filler. Mac & Cheese with cauliflower or broccoli mixed in. Spaghetti, so many veggie options there.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm really focusing on my water intake at the moment, as I could easily go the whole day with just one glass so I'm drinking alot, but I will try having a glass before I eat!

Recently, while out at a restaurant, I had two glasses of water before my meal was brought out (I was pretty thirsty). By the time my food arrived and I started eating, I was so shocked at how "full" I felt after having just a few bites. And to piggy back what @TeaBea stated, eating slowly will help your mind catch up to being satiated.
