Being between sizes. The size I've been wearing needs a belt to stay up...I could put a tennis shoe in the empty space, no problem. But the next darn size looks miles away when I try it on. :/

Due to my body shape and modern sizing I am always always always between sizes. Nothing ever fits properly "off the rack" or at least very rarely. There's about 2 sizes difference between my waist and boobs/bum.

People who post complaining about having a period every effing month despite the fact that a) most women between 12-50 have one and it gets old that you repeatedly feel the need to share details of your menstrual cycle with Internet strangers and b) there are many women on here that suffer with PCOS, menopause and other hormonal issues but they don't feel the need to play the 'poor old me, hormones control me' card.

It's even more irritating when after being told that it's temporary water weight they still allow it to discourage them and they still panic. When women say TOM instead of period it kind of irks me. It's like we have to use a secret acronym to describe a natural bodily function because it's taboo or emabarassing to talk about.

    Or "cycle" instead of "period".

People thinking that because they work, are a student, are poor, are a mom of 4, are over 40 years, are very short, don't cook, have a medical condition, work at night, etc that it is impossible for them to lose weight and someone who suggests it is all CICO is just being mean. Everyone has their own challenges to deal with.

People who HAVE to lose 30 lbs in just 2 months and aren't losing fast enough. Be patient and realistic. Don't do weird extreme things.

People who talk about eating healthy or wanting a healthy recipe. WTF do you mean by healthy? Low calorie, high protein, lots of kale, no gluten, no poison? How could I know what you think is healthy? Food has nutrients... pizza can be part of a healthy diet. If you have specific health goals or requirements then state them. If you want to have a special diet figure out what you need and where to get it instead of whining that your family/friends don't "eat healthy" or provide "healthy" options. If you want to go to a restaurant that meets your needs with your friends then tell them the restaurants you are okay with.

^ all of this, fat shaming and 'loose' :s

Long slow moving lines at the post office and when I go to the grocery store seeing skinny people with ice cream, cookies and dessert in their grocery cart.

Why? Are you jealous they're eating it and you're presumably not? :)

I guess I don't get this. The cleanest way I can ask this is when was the last time either of you said "I have to go urinate", natural body function, and all? I don't think it's that secret or embarrassing. It's personal and a euphemism.

At least "time of month" is a euphemism, "cycle" is just plain wrong and misleading. Do you mean "personal" as in "private" or "idiosyncratic"? I usually don't bring up "menstruation" in small talk. (Sorry if this isn't what you are talking about at all, language barrier and all that.)

Private. I can't really fathom whom the word "cycle" would mislead. Used in context, anyone would know exactly what's being referred to (IMO). I've had people randomly mention their cramps. Probably in the same settings someone might mention they had to go use the bathroom or "pee"

But hey, that's why it's a pet peeve, right? I almost want you to forget I asked

IMO: Cycle refers to the entire month. Period refers to the menstrual period. TOM refers to the parts problematic for many dieters: the days before and during the period. I don't love it as an acronym but I can't think of a better term in current use. (Though I don't read those threads because I can't help, not having many issues of my own with it, like a few other fortunates here.)

When a woman makes a post with a question and aplogizes to men for posting gross or tmi details about a normal body function that a good share of the population of this planet experiences every month for decades. Why apologize for giving details? Men commonly watch movies or video games with bodies being blown apart in bloody ways and not flinch but talking about a woman's period is uncomfortable or disgusting. Stop apologizing. Ask your question and anyone who thinks it is gross to read about periods can just not open that thread.

I really don't understand why people think it's so hard to lose weight working overnights. I have actually found it easier. Like, the laws of physics still work after dark, y'know?

Um, yeah, my pet peeve is my mother because she constantly tells me no matter what I do, I will just get fat once I reach menopause because of genetics. I do not agree with her.

That was my original reply in this thread.

The response you are quoting from me clearly says as long as I remain diligent, I will not put back on the weight I lost.

Sigh. Some people like to argue just for the sake of arguing. That's another one of my pet peeves. Or are you saying my mother is right, and just because we're women, we should just throw in the towel?

Not at all! I'm just saying that for me it's been a challenge. I'm still here, though, so I haven't thrown in the towel yet. Remain diligent and sensible with diet and exercise (whatever diet and exercise works for you). That's the way to remain healthy. I'm trying to say that I didn't and now, when my hormones are working against me, I'm in a mess. Genetics do enter into it but so do lifestyle choices. In other words, your mother is right but she's wrong, too and won't it be awesome when you prove her wrong?

And now to lighten the mood, a kitten gif for you OP!

This is actually a question of personal circadian rhythms. Some people's bodies simply do not respond well to being in the dark. Working night shift dang near killed me. :(

My peeve, though, is clothing costs. I've dropped two swimsuit sizes in three months, and my current suit is starting to sag! Those things aren't cheap! Thank heaven for SwimOutlet's clearance sales.

My peeve is my dh's belief that everything his coworker says about nutrition and fitness is gospel. Yes his coworker is knowledgeable, but my husband gets this attitude like "oh I could never do things as well as that" regarding fitness or a healthy diet so he doesn't seem to bother trying. Like how he heard from this guy that it's better to lift weights later in the day than early in the morning; that doesn't fit into my dh's work schedule so he doesn't bother lifting weights at all. Ugh. His coworker has a low carb diet which works for him and I have to hear about how well it's worked for him, and I know my husband is implying that he thinks he should do that too -- because if "so and so" has done it, it must be the right way to diet. Never mind that I've maintained a 45 lb loss for 3 years, apparently that doesn't matter.

I'm surprised things terms like TOM and cycle could annoy someone. I guess thats the point of this thread though and calling it a pet peeve lol. I prefer 'time of the month' and cycle when referring to my period. It's not shame or anything like that, I just prefer it. Also whenever I say period I can see a dot flash in my head. But obviously, that's just me :D

Always buy your swim costume a size too small (Competitive swimmers trick) the chlorine in the pool affects the fabric and makes it bigger anyways, add weightloss and you get even less wear out of your cozzy, so buy a size too small and they'll last longer ;) I'm with you though, I keep shrinking out of my clothes before I've had any decent wear out of them and back to the shops for new ones it's getting rather expensive!

Another pet peeve I can think of is the current posts appearing frequently complaining that they aren't losing and in the same sentence say they have lost 8,9,10lbs in the last month and maybe gained a pound overnight come on folks this is completely normal and if you'd checked 2 posts down you could've read the same answer you're getting, given to another Noob it's starting to sound like a broken record.

I guess mine is that when someone loses weight that somehow makes him/her an expert. If you're not doing it their way then you're doing it wrong. CICO is the answer and how you apply that principle is your business. To me, sustainable means a change that you can continue using forever.

Two pet peeves: Marie Osmond in her old Nutrisystem commercial saying "I was 50 pounds overweight, it was the worst day of my life," like it just happened overnight and friends who get all excited about starting MFP with you, then bail after the first couple days.
