I'm at a stand still with my weight and I was wondering what ideas I could get to be able to see the numbers start to come down again.

Thank you in advance. :)

How long has it been since you've lost weight?

That's not a real standstill. Weight loss isn't linear, there will be some weeks where you will not lose, some weeks where your weight may go up.

That's completely normal. People losing weight often have a week or more without any weight loss. Just be patient.

Just went thru the samething! Finally today I dropped another 1.5 pounds after 2 weeks of nothing :) be patient and stay motivated, the weight will drop! I check my weight once a week, I'd go crazy if I checked everyday. What about you?

If the sight of the scale not going down causes any sort of frustration, I have found that its best only to weigh yourself every 2 weeks (or even less). Focus on how you feel more then what the scale says. Stick to a calorie and excercise goal. It will come off if you do so. Be patient and you will get there!

Weight loss IS linear IF you have a consistent calorie deficit. Did you eat a meal high in sodium? Did you start a new exercise program? These two things can cause you to retain water for a bit.

This happened to me a couple of times. I did a 12 day stretch with no loss and had a sudden 2 lb loss both times which put me right where I would have been at a pound a week.

You were probably retaining water both times. CICO really IS linear IF you maintai a consistent calorie deficit.

Do not listen to this. It's flat wrong for most/many women. Our cycles cause weight to fluctuate over the course of a month and it takes measurements over longer periods (ha) to measure our results. My weight only goes down once every 28 days. That's a lots of frustrating weekly weigh-ins if you don't find your own pattern.

I have been stuck at the same weight for 3 weeks. Was losing a lb a week then nothing. A gym freak friend told me to change my activities. He said my body had got used to the healthy food and was panicking and storing. .. I went out and ate a medium pizza. Felt bad after it. But went toilet and got up the next day. Got on scales and I'd lost 2lb! Now I've changed it slightly and I'm trying to fit in extra little exercises in the house as I don't get out to the gym being a single parent. Gonna see how I get on. Keep going guys. If we really want it, we can achieve it X

Also look at how many calories you should be eating for your new weight. Perhaps you are still on the same number of calories for the old, higher weight. Adjust this if necessary.

A number of things can disguise weight loss. I mentioned them previously. But weight loss really IS linear IF you have a consistent calorie deficit. If CICO is true, which it is, then weight loss with a consistent calorie deficit can only be linear, no?

Exactly. There's a confusion of terms. Fat loss is most likely linear with consistent and accurate cico, but weight loss isn't. And since we can't easily measure fat loss on a daily/weekly basis, weight loss is all we have to go on.
I never see a drop until shark week. 3 or so weeks of nothing, and then a whoosh. It's like a tiny bit of compensation...

Read a few more threads and this issue is bound to come up again. The answer is always the same. Weight loss is not linear. Daily fluctuations are common. If you can't handle that, stop weighing yourself everyday.

Weight loss is not linear and varies based on everything under the sun. I weigh myself daily, but I only /record/ every couple days or so, once or twice a week at most. Everything from when you ate (big meal before bed = still have weight from stomach contents when you weigh in the morning) to how much water you're retaining to the coffee you had will skew your weight by half a pound or more.

Regardless of how often you weigh yourself, look at your weight loss as trends over longer terms (say, weeks in a month) and it'll smooth out some of the noise from frequent weigh-ins.
