Paczki Day today!

So who else had a paczki?

My office bought a box of paczkis as always. Before I ate, I hunted down the calorie counts and pre-logged half my donut for 270 cals (estimating on the high side, just in case). Then I carefully sliced it in half, packed the other half away in my lunch bag to bring home for my daughter - and enjoyed a delicious bavarian creme jelly donut. Thank goodness I banked 250 calories yesterday (even though I forgot about Paczki Day).

*Note: I understand this is a Lent tradition only popular in some communities so I imagine there will be folks who will be wondering what on earth a paczki is :) It's the craziest, fattiest jelly doughnut possible - offered only once a year on Fat Tuesday.

Big thing here in Chicago, definitely.

I'm doomed! We have them here in Canada too. They seem to be the only 'real' doughnut you can buy without going to a specialty bakery. They are sooooo awesome. What's your favourite kind?

I'm all about the bavarian cream. Lemon is also yummy. My coworker said one of them was chocolate - he said it was delish! Surprised since this is the first year a chocolate one appeared in our variety box.

I had half a raspberry jelly one. One of my co-workers always brings them (her family is Polish and own a bakery, so...), and someone else had already helpfully taken just half of one, so that made it easy.

I have never seen chocolate! My hubby loves prune and swears it's better than it sounds but I haven't seen it here. Lemon and raspberry are my faves. I'd better get an extra workout in to eat this delicious goodness!

Your restraint is superhuman. I really don't think I could just eat half. :)

I'm very lucky. Donuts make me ill as does frosting, lol. No temptation here ;)

Good for you for eating half!! I decided I won't take part this year. I couldn't eat half, heck I probably wouldn't stop at one honestly!

LOL - I considered it on the drive in and kept changing my mind! In fact, when I walked into the office, I decided that I wouldn't eat. But as I unpacked my breakfast in the kitchen - I finally decided I was being nuts and grabbed one. Glad I only ate half though (I did consider eating the whole thing!).

Doughnuts aren't really a huge weakness of mine, but I love holiday traditions, and it's only once a year.

Pączki are to die for. Prune are really the super *traditional* type but I love chocolate myself. I make them every year which is probably bad since one batch makes 50. Good thing tomorrow is lent....

Ok, we are missing out here in Canada. I have never seen a chocolate one - I'll have to check out a Polish bakery next time I'm in Toronto.

I ate a raspberry one last night. Worth every single calorie.
