Why am I suddenly in dire need of chocolate

I've been logging, exercising, and eating healthy fruits veggies, etc. for 30 days. Lost 9lbs. Well suddenly I can't get enough chocolate. It's all I want. I never craved chocolate. Why suddenly? Not sweets just chocolate. It's weird. I try not to suddenly go crazy and grab a milky way or anything.. so I've been taking a few nestle choc chips to satisfy this.. What is happening?

Could be hormones or sometimes it can signify a lack of iron. Have you had your bloods checked lately?0
-
Try increasing your magnesium intake.0
-
I second hormones. RIght now, I could murder an entire container of Trader Joe's dark chocolate covered almonds. MURDER THEM! ... I won't. But I could.0
-
Could be a magnesium deficiency. Chocolate cravings are a top symptom.0

Well DAMN!!!! I may just have that stupid diet hot chocolate.. it's basically hot water with a smidge of chocolate.. 25 calories. UGH0

I get like that when I'm low on iron. Incidentally, this is also why women crave chocolate during their period. Try and get some lean red meat, spinach and beans. These are all high-iron foods. You should ask for some blood work to be sure, and if you're really concerned. In the meantime, there's nothing wrong with extra spinach!0

I'll try magnesium then too.0
-
Yes I totally forgot magnesium deficiency. I take a high dose daily. Mind you I still crave chocolate0
-
Just have it. Then knock 25 calories off tomorrow. It'll all equal out.0
-
Just work out your calories for the day to include a little chocolate, I would be a serial killer if I didn't have a little bit of proper chocolate when I want it0
-
I get that way if I go awhile without chocolate ( no cravings either) then have a piece it can totally knock me off course awhile. So try instead dark chocolate it has that chocolate without the sweet. Or unsweetened cocoa w stevia. That curbed it every time. Or those chocolate full bars hit the spot.0

Milky Ways are relatively low in chocolate, so chocolate chips would indeed be a better choice to satisfy that chocolate itch. 70 calories worth of Ghiradelli semi sweet chips or a square and I am good to go.

As someone with anemia, I do encourage you to get your iron levels tested, especially if you are also noticing symptoms like fatigue or more hair loss than normal.

Well, if we're me that went this long without the chocolate I LOVE, I would be going crazy and would want to devour an entire chocolate silk pie! Or six chocolate donuts in one sitting !0
-
Cravings come & go. Try some dark chocolate at least 70% cacao. One square has about 60 cals and is very satisfying. The higher the % the better. It's good for you too!0

Perhaps your body just wants sweet.0

I agree. I don't think it's hormonal or a lack of iron. I know that I could not last 30 days with not eating something scrumptious !0 -
If you've cut out a lot of "treats" you may just be craving a treat. I never really used to crave chocolate when I ate whatever I wanted but now I eat in moderation/calorie count, it's one of the things I crave most. I think my brain just figures out whatever will satisfy my tongue the most.
If you still are eating "treats", maybe try a supplement as suggested above.0 -
The other day I ate 600 calories worth of chocolate. Totally worth it. I just fit it into the weekly plan and it was no biggie0
-
I do think it's worth getting your bloods tested for iron and magnesium levels, better safe than sorry0
-
magnesium DOES work,,, been on it for a bit,, what a diff it makes!0

I crave chocolate when I am a bit depressed. Just have some! I like dark chocolate because it's hard to eat too much of it at a time. But if I do finish the whole bar, I think well at least I won't be tempted tomorrow, and I go running or something. As the french say "the best way to resist temptation is to give in".0

If I have calories, I eat as much chocolate as I can fit. Yum, chocolate. If I don't have a lot of calories left, I make a hot chocolate with Hershey's baking powder and splenda with 2% milk. I can have a big mug of it for around 100 calories and it's pretty satisfying. Chocolate powder has very few calories and you can get a nice dose of pure chocolate in there, and it's warm and comforting.0

Is there a reason you are completely banning chocolate? A small chocolate-y treat (small bar, scoop of chocolate ice cream, some dark chocolate etc) does not have that many calories. I would go ahead and eat.0
-
Hi, if it were me, I would have a bar of chocolate, but make it the most delicious one that you can imagine. In the past if I've craved dark chocolate but haven't got any in the house, I would start to eat the kids lunch box treats, nope that didn't hit the spot, so start eating the hot chocolate from the tub, and nope still not fulfilled! I guess what I'm saying is, don't eat all around what you desire, buy it, eat it and move on! Good luck xx0

9lbs in one month. I'd want to eat everything in site if I'd been cutting that much!
Congratulations.
If you find you are craving food, have it. Log it, have a maintenance day.
I get starving in the few days leading up to TOM or if I've been over cutting.
Enjoy that lovely choccy

That is my goto for chocolate cravings!!! Pickles for salt cravings. Ha. Seriously though, try the magnesium. Also, you have lost 9 pounds. That is awesome. Maybe take one day where you chill and eat some chocolate, but log it? I still have quite a few pounds to go myself, but I always let lose a little on the weekends, and have an item or two of naughty food.0 -

During my time of the month I crave chocolate, usually 1-2 days. Last time I just ate at maintenance that day and had the chocolate. It was gooooooood!0
