How to DUMP the water weight from salty snacks?

Hi all! I'm new to this site, and generally a lurker. I haven't really decided this is for me yet, but I am giving it an honest whirl. I haven't lost anything except my dignity in the last 6 weeks, although I feel like I have lost mass... Anyway my question stems from the TOM for us ladies. Some crave sweets( and V-Day, too!)., but I love the salty , crunchy snacks! Now that I am pleasantly swollen and bloated and my period has finally started, my plan is to stick with lean protein and non starchy veggies and low sodium to dump the water... I do have to force myself to drink water in general, but I know I need to, to drop the puff.
Does anybody have any other tried and true tricks for dropping the water weight? Thanks in advance!

Best way to drop water is to drink more of it.

Drink plenty of water. I usually gain a few pounds over the weekend because I forget to drink water, and will often have at least one restaurant meal (restaurants love salt!) I can count on that all going away within a few days of being back to my normal eating/drinking habits.

seems counter-intuitive but the best way to dump water weight is to tank up on water (the more water you take in, the more the body adjusts to having extra water and dumps the water that you are retaining).

Eh, it's just water. Don't make yourself crazy over it. Drink some extra water to flush things through, but know that's all it is.
Also, if you're not seeing scale differences, try taking your measurements as well as stepping on the scale. Sometimes, your body is 'redistributing' in the early stages, and the scale doesn't know fat from muscle or water, or a meal in your stomach. The measuring tape can help you see changes.

Thanks, guys! I find water so boring that I really only drink it when I am actually thirsty. Seltzer, on the other hand, I actually enjoy. So zero calorie, no sweeteners (real or fake) and zero sodium, but is the CO2 an issue?

As you spend more time with MFP ( hope you do, it works) and track your weight you will get to recognise the rhythms of your body.
Ovulation and menstruation will skew your downward trend, but it is just a hiccup of water weight.
Try tracking with an app like libra or happy scale. They will give you a clearer picture.

    Cheers, h.

Can't answer your question about carbonation. I drinks lots and lots of lightly sweetened weak tea.

^Thank You H, I had a tubal ligation last year after our late in life "surprise" little man was born. Our girls are 12 and 13 (I know, kill me!!). So I have 20 lbs to lose in the last few years of 1) no more synthetic hormones! 2) I quit smoking 4 yrs ago (and gained weight) 3) I went back to school while working full time with 3 kids and FINALLY graduated and got a job in my field, but it is sedentary, which is new for me. My cycle is pretty regular, but the salty cravings do me in!
I wonder if I need more sodium on a daily basis to alleviate the salt binges?
FYI I am a beach person at heart, stuck in coastal Massachusetts which is in a deep freeze right now...maybe that's where I get my salt during the summer!

Thanks Kshama2001, I will occasionally splash a bit of juice in some seltzer but not enough to worry about. I put sugar in my one coffee a day, and that is it as far as sweeteners. Maybe ill brew up a huge batch of iced green tea to chug over the next few days....I feel so fat and gross...

As long as you're getting the h2o your body doesn't care whether it's bubbly or even whether it has tea or coffee in it. You're good.

Try mixing cranberry juice into your water. Cranberries act as a diuretic, so you get a double whammy

I got myself a SodaStream because I will drink so much more water if it has bubbles in it.

There is no problems for the average person drinking bubble. I think if you have had any kind of lap band etc type surgery it is not advised.

I have quite an aversion to salt and have never craved it so can't really comment on if you up it it will take away the craving. However, I do slowly up my salt pre cruise vacation so I won't get quite the salt water bloat I would get otherwise.

Congrats on your little surprise, new career, and quitting smoking. That is quite a lot of success.

Love my end if winter escape to the beaches of the Caribbean.

    Cheers, h.

Wow, that would never have entered my head. I will be taking some on my next vacation. I bloat, and my ankles swell.

    Thanks, @Christine_72, h.

No worries H  I know it works, because if I mix just 250ml (the sugar free or low sugar version) of cranberry juice in with my 1.5L bottle of water I pee twice as much and the swelling in my legs disappears.

I tend to have that problem myself. Drinking a LOT of coffee will usually trigger me to dump a LOT of water in a short period of time. Just stick close to the bathroom.
