Recently divorced, busy mom...

Hi everyone! I'm a 35 yr old, newly divorced, full time, working mother of 3 near Cincinnati, Ohio. My divorce was a grueling 2 year battle. I joke that I picked up the 40lbs my ex husband lost.
I went from a tiny, organized, fit, stay at home mom to a now working, disorganized, chubby, out of shape, full time mom. I'm struggling with how to get my life back together. I finally bought us a home and we just got it organized. I'm still struggling with everything else. I feel embarrassed when I run into people who knew me before, so I isolate myself.
I need to get my body back, so that I am one step closer to getting my life back together. I'm posting here looking for support bc I'm lost right now. I'm hoping to find other moms or dads that have found simple recipes and workouts to incorporate into their busy lives. I need ideas, recipes, workouts and support.

Well, sorry to hear about your divorce, but you sound very motivated and I think you have a clear path for success. I hope you reach all of your goals and not just the weight loss. I'm in your corner!0

Hey sorry to hear about your divorce. I found an app on my phone called sworkit. You can customize work outs and it pairs with this app to help you with results. Its very flexible with time you can set it anywhere between 5 minutes and an hour. It's helped me stay motivated by giving different work outs instead of the same old thing.0

By the way you still look very pretty0

Feel free to add me! I was divorced almost 2 years ago...but I actually lost a lot of weight towards the end of my marriage. I just moved in with a new guy and gained about 10 pounds!! Men suck! Lol0

Cincymom,
My husband just recently asked me for a divorce. It came out of nowhere. I was blindsided and felt sucker punched. My diet situation is different. I gag when I try to eat. I know this is not good diet advice but it would be good to chat with someone that just went through a divorce. I have no idea what to expect. We have 3 grown boys and a 16 year old boy at home. I'm taking this time as me time. Mommy makeover. My advice for you is to take time for yourself.0 -
@allieparkia - That stinks, lol. Congrats on finding someone new though. That part still scares me at this point
@bethdake - Divorce is hard, no matter the circumstances. I'd be happy to provide any support I can. I should have reached out for support, but instead isolated myself.0 -
I've isolated myself too. I spoke to a lawyer. She said do not move out of the house. I've been cordial and refuse to engage in arguments. I'm just waiting for him to make the next move.0

The thought of finding someone new is so far out of my mind. To allieparkia: Good for you.0

@bethdake - Isolation wasn't a good idea... 2 years later, it's kind of hard to come out of isolation I know that friends don't understand, but I wouldn't cut them off completely like I did. I've heard divorce support groups help, but didn't try any. You can direct message me anytime.0

So many of my friends are our mutual friends but you're right about not isolating myself. I need to be the best outgoing Mom for my 16 year old. Ugh! Easier said then done. Divorce is humiliating right now.0

@kolorkool - thank you
I just went and took some "before" pics to hopefully motivate me. Ouch, they are scary. I should have taken some bikini pics a long time ago. That was way scarier than the number on the scale!0 -

@bethdake I felt the same way for a while...no appetite and always sick to my stomach. I am the one that asked for the divorce and kicked him out, but after being together for almost 14 years it was not easy! No kids for us, thank goodness. I never thought I would ever move on, but I found a great guy who has been through similar situations so it really helps! I added you, so feel free to reach out!0

I'm a newly divorced gal too. I'm 43 years old and working now a full time job while supporting my two boys. I'm looking to lose about 20-25 lbs, to start eating better and to get my lazy self downstairs on my treadmill a few times a week. I want to feel better by eating better and getting more energy! We've got this!0

Feel free to add me. Your future is bright because you have already put yourself on a new road. Happy to help in any way I can.0

Hi cincymomof3, I've been where you are now. Be happy with the progress you're making now. A home for you and your kids, and a job. It took a year for me to start working after not working for over five years. My new goal now is saving and trying to move out. (I have no chose but to live with my mother due to not having the financial ability to may for rent and utilities on my own ) I love teaching but i'll never be able to rent/buy my own place. Good luck and add if you want.0

Best of luck on your weightloss journey!0

Hi Cincymom! I know your story all too well! I was divorced a few years ago and as a result, my ex moved states away and I found myself a single, working mom of a pre-schooler! I coped by drinking a bottle of wine almost every night & not paying attention to my own needs. I too gained a bunch of weight (wine & beer have always been my downfall!). I got on track by logging my food & started doing a lot of jogging & yoga, but fell off the wagon a couple of years ago because I went from having a job where I could work from home to a job that required me to go to an office. I'm just now taking back control again. I joined Orangetheory (which I absolutely love) and insist on taking that time for myself. I always felt guilty about taking time for myself - thinking it was taking precious time away from my daughter - but now I realize that I'm showing her what a healthy mom looks like (and it looks a lot better than a wine-hungover mom, which still happens after a fun night with friends, just not as often). Logging my food has really helped me see what my weaknesses are - and if I have 4 glasses of wine, I have to log that too (even if I do split it up amongst lunch and dinner). It helps to see where all your calories are going - especially those calories you worked so hard for!
Good luck to you & feel free to add me if you want to keep in touch!0 -
Wow, I am sorry for all of you. We aren't all bad. My wife has put up with me for 26 years now Good luck Cincymom0

One more thing - I have found making lunches on Sunday helps with the workweek struggle! I do a lot of salads (make them in large mason jars) after I went to a "Salad In A Jar" party. I buy a rotisserie chicken from the store and cut it up and use it throughout the week (in salads, or snacks or whatever). I drink a TON of water. I have a protein shake in the morning for breakfast on my drive to the office and usually add either peanut butter & banana or greek yogurt for extra protein. I've also made a lot of soups & stews in the crock pot that are healthy and great throughout the week. Those are just a few of the things I've done - I'm down 8 pounds in 4 weeks!0
