Anyone else a nosy grocery store shopper?

Now that I'm in the middle of this new lifestyle change, I have turned into the nosiest grocery shopper! I am totally fascinated by what other people are buying. I'll be toodling along with my cart, but I can't resist to see what others are buying. Does anyone else do this? LOL! I also find grocery runs SO incredibly hard. There are 1000 foods that I want to try, but they are junk. It is like a junky in a crack house!

i have to admit that i am too. i haven't seen one single 'healthy'ish shopping cart yet. generally they're full of potato chips and junk food. i can't help but look!0

I do the same thing now, I'm always looking0

I used to be a in-and-out kind of shopper, and never thought about what i was picking up.
But now, i thinki probably get on peoples nerves asi stand there for ages looking at all the different types of whatever it is that im looking at to see which is lowest in calories. And i have a good old look at what other people are getting, and i enjoy tutting in my head at their bad choices, lol!!0 -
Oh yes!! Now I look in other people's carts and think "What crap!" Most is processed foods, soda, little to no fruits and veggies. Whenever I go shopping, I think "Would Jamie Oliver be proud of what I have in my cart?" and the answers have been "Yes!". In the past, the answer would have been no.0

Guilty! My whole thought process is different when it comes to shopping for my family and I. I look at other shopping carts... look at the people pushing it and I catch myself shaking my head sometimes. I'm pretty sure people thought the same about me before I started my weight loss journey.0

Guilty here! You can really tell alot about a person you have never met just by what they have in thier carts!0
-
I guess it depends on where you shop...I do most of my shopping at health food stores like Whole Foods mainly because I like to buy my whole grains and spices and stuff in bulk, and they are one of the few grocery chains left that do bulk items. You really can't get too unhealthy there! When I do venture into my local regular grocery store though, I try not to look, as all it does is depress me. :-(0

Too funny!
I am now like the ex-smoker who has an almost religious intolerance for anyone who smokes!
I do not say anything to anyone but my wife and children but I see the karts full of processed foods with high sugar and sodium and I want to scream!0 -
I dont shop in a grocery store anymore.
Honestly, fresh markets/farmers markets ARE THE WAY TO GO! Here for a few reasons why...
1.) You cant find chips
2.) The butchers have the best cuts of meat in town
3.) Produce vendors are trying to get rid of as much produce as possible, while competing with others, so you can get a GREAT deal on your healthiest foods. For example, snow peas are 5.99 a pound at any of my local grocery stores. I got a pound for 2 bucks at my local market
4.) You are likely to buy less because you dont have a bunch of filler foods
5.) Some markets are big enough where you have vendors with pre-made all natural ingredients foods, so if you know you dont have time to cook, you can still get a GREAT meal or side dishes
Cleveland has several AMAZING markets, The West Side Market, being out most famous. I used to only visit there on a yearly or a semi-annual basis. Now? I'm there about twice a month. I spend half of the amount of money I would in stores and I come out with WAY healthier ingredients. Not to mention, shopping at local markets is a better way to support your local economy than going to the chain grocery store.
This weekend, while on a nice hike, my boyfriend and I stopped by at a small fresh market on the trail. I found myself snooping what was in other peoples arms (no carts! haha) because I didn't want to miss any good stuff! Had I not snooped, I would have missed the double berry all natural jam that is OUT of this world0 -
I do this too. But I tend to do it more so in restaurants.0

Guilty...I do this all the time. Its nice to see how far my cart has changed over the last year. I also enjoy the comments I get from older ladies in the fruit/veggie sections who are always surprised to see a young person that eats her veggies!0

I don't look at other people's carts because I know that 99% of the time the stuff I have in mine is fresher and healthier so if I look at theirs it'll just make me silently scoff at what unhealthy fools everyone is lol and I try not to think like that.0

Stick to the rim of the store to stay clear of the majority of the processed junk
I love to people watch in general so I am always looking to see what they are buying - how they buy it, if they read every label and count up the cost, or walk down the isle and toss pretty packages into the buggy

YES, funny right? As for the gorcery run, make a list of what you need, and stay out of the center isles.0 -
I've always been a nosy shopper, lol. I find it fascinating to see what others are putting in there carts. There are times when my cart is great, but there are times when I'm making recipes for special occasions and such that my cart doesn't look so great either, lol. You can't always judge...I might shop great 99% of the time, but then there's that one time I have to make 4 dozen bars for a function at church and if you see my cart it isn't going to look very good at all.0

I look at single men's shopping trolleys, and if I like the look of it I give them my best "take me home with you" look0
-
As for grocery shopping, I narrow my search just to what I need and I dont look around for anything else. If I want to try something new, I plan and search for cals info ahead, and I dont get distracted then.
I look sometimes at what is the person in front of me buying, but thats all:)0 -
I get embarrassed when I think about what my husband and I used to eat at restaurants. I'm sure people were looking. I have a lot of sympathy though when I see morbidly obese people with the crinkle fries etc in their cart. It's like I want to run over and help, and give them some yummy, healthier options. I want success for EVERYONE!0

Yes! I'm not a parent but I seem to be the most judgemental about parent's carts when they're full of sodas, chips, icecream, sugary cereals, etc. Disgusting!0
-
LMBO, oh I so do this now but I have a worse habit, I look at the person first to see what there body type is and if there in shape I look and see what kind of stuff they are eating. Sooooo nosey and I need to stop but i cant help it. :blushing:0
-
I did this in the beginning. Oh and I shop at Trader Joe's, so it's much better than shopping at a regular supermarket.0
-
I think it's the other way around. Then again I am in japan and the Japanese people stare at my choices.0
-
i do the same & I think I am becoming a food snob... cause I look at the crap that folks are buying & get turned off.0
-
Haha I didn't before but you bet I will now!0

I just always wonder if there kids are getting any fruits or veggies?! It makes me sad!0 -

-
I *always* look, and I always end up feeling smug!0
-
It's funny, I always think people must look at my cart and think "How's she big when she buys all those healthy foods"0
