Advice needed please!

I've been exercising about 1 hour daily (aerobic) usually treadmill or biking. I heard that it is good to be weight training too, as muscle helps burn more fat. I need to lose 100 more lbs. I started with just adding 1-2 lb weights and lifted them about 10mins total while I was biking but the next day I had pain in my rotator cuff-shoulder. I am afraid to injure myself as it really doesn't take much these days... My question is should I give up on weights for now and just focus on aerobics? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Lifting weights is a great thing to add to your exercise routine. Weight lifting before your cardio will maximize your calorie burn and help speed up your metabolism. However, it sounds like since you have a significant amount of weight to lose you should start small. Try doing exercises that utilize just your body weight! A quick Google search for exercises like that will give you a lot of ideas! Keep up the good work! Good luck!0

Thankyou. I'll give that a try0

Focus on one thing at a time. If you're using the bike, then use the bike. IF you want to do resistance training of some kind then give it it's own time.
Look into bodyweight stuff like Body by You as a means of getting started. And follow a structured plan for resistance training, rather than just randomly lifting weights. That'll reduce your injury risk.0 -
Another program to google is Nerd Fitness.
Don't design your own program until you know what you're doing.0 -
If youve still got a ways to go on weight loss, i suggest starting with free weights instead of body weight. Use 2 lb dumbells and do simple exercises like bicep curls and tricep extensions. Youtube should be able to help ya out on specific how to's0

Whilst I would agree that some bodyweight work can be far more challenging than free weights for someone who is significantly overweight, the problem that the originator has is that doing random weights work, whilst using a stationary bike, has led to an injury.Use 2 lb dumbells and do simple exercises like bicep curls and tricep extensions. So any free weights programme would require a progression of weights. 2lb weights are going to be useless in a couple of weeks, so you're suggesting that the originator buys an extensive set of equipment. A structured plan, and separation of CV work and resistance work, will be far more productive than a few videos on youtube.
I'd agree with the nerdfitness suggestion as well.
