Best exercise to lose weight?

I go to the gym regularly. My personal trainer put me on some exercise like interval training on the treadmill 30secs sprint and 30 secs rest for 15 minutes. 10 minutes on bike, crunchies squats etc. I feel i should do more cardio as i am 27, 165cm and 60kg in order to lose a bit of extra fat. What cardio do you all do at the gym? X

    You cannot out exercise overeating. Trust me, I tried.

    if you're not losing on your current calorie intake then yes.

    my best successes have always been when I was doing 10-12 hours of endurance cardio each week, including 5-10 mile runs, 3 hour bike rides, long swims. It's a simple equation of calories in minus calories out - to lose weight, you have to burn more than you put in. For me, the best approach has always been burn "easy" for longer amounts of time rather than high intensity for shorter time.

    There is no best. A good overall program should include both strength training and cardiovascular training

    But that's appropriate to my goals and probably not yours.
    Currently my cardio is mostly on a cycle trainer during very long duration intervals. Next session will be 8 minute intervals - it's nasty but effective for my fitness/cycling goals.

    Just a nerdy research chick here, but everything I have found says progressive heavy lifting and high intensity interval training.

    I find the HIIT part pretty straight forward; don't need a trainer for that. Well...kind of. I really just prefer the high intensity part, not so good on doing timed intervals. I do slow down when I gotta. ;) Walking outside is nice, walking on the gym treadmill is boring.

    Decided to try Stronglifts 5X5 for the weights side, but honestly haven't gotten far with that.

    I did schedule an hour with a gym PT. I told him upfront what I wanted to do. Then I show up and first thing he is wanting me to do step ups on platforms and slamming a ball; which would be fine if that is what I wanted to do. I get the feeling he is a big CrossFit fan. I insisted that I wanted to work with weights. So we did, but not everything I really wanted/needed. After he still felt the need to emphasize that a low rep program would cause me to get larger muscles and I should stick with more reps. :/

    Should try another trainer and feeling really awkward about it since I'm really introverted/non-confrontational and this other guy is there all the time.
