I just turned 29 and I'm about 30 pounds overweight. I want to lose those 30 pounds in about 10 months. Any ideas good tips of where to begin and good workouts?

The best workout is one you'll do. For me, that's cycling, ballroom dance, and this goofy little baby lifting class my YMCA has. What it is for you, only you can know! I'd try a bunch of different stuff and see which you like the best/hate the least.

    Agreed!

Consistency is the key, so doing what you WILL do is the important thing.

I swim laps, and then walk on days I can't swim.

Walking is always a good place to start-- whether it's street walking or treadmill walking. But you might also try fitness classes (yoga,o aerobics, Jazzercise, Zumba, spin classes--whatever floats your boat), or different exercise equipment (rowing, stationary bikes, stair climbers, etc.)

+1 to finding an activity you enjoy! (I row - on water when it's not winter, on machines when it is; take spin classes; and more.) Sample some things: Youtube has lots of workouts (people seem to like Fitnessblender, for one).

That said, weight loss is much more about the eating side of the equation. I've been very active for a dozen years, but stayed fat until I got my eating to a sensible place. It's very easy to out-eat nearly any workout routine.

Agree with @chimaerandi Consistency is key and your diet will play arguably more of a key factor than your exercise. You should come up with a plan for both and then be consistent and patient. The results will come and/or you can tweak what you are doing until they do. Feel free to add me for support!

For me, it was one simple rule that changed everything- if I'm watching anything, it's from the treadmill. So I'm not sitting on the couch, and I frequently keep going longer in order to find out what happened next.

That works for me, too. If I want to watch a movie or a show on Netflix, it has to be done on my treadmill.

Thank you for the ideas. The diet has been a struggle especially with my coworkers who don't understand that I'm just trying to be healthy and fit.

Don't overcomplicate it. It's easier simpler than almost everyone claims. Read the sexypants thread copied above.

    Edited: Simple isn't always easy.
