Palpitations

Options
In the last week or so I have been having palpitations from time to time. I have always had them on and off all my life but lately it seems a big increase. A heart doctor said the were benign a few months back. Has anyone else seen an increase since starting a diet exercise regime.

Did you run your new diet and exercise regime past your heart doctor before beginning?

Could it be that you are deficient in something like vit d, calcium, potassium, or magnesium? Do you take a daily multivitamin? Open your diary. Sometimes when people do extreme diets, they "miss out" on basic nutrients.

How's your iron? I get tachycardia (racing heart) when doing nothing when I'm severely anaemic.

My sister is anemic bad so is my son. They did tests twice. One Dr said it was low another said it was ok. I will try to find another dr mine moved away again, the second one in a year. I am thinking of going to urgent care tomorrow if it keeps up.

My diet isn't bad I am to have 1300 calories a day. But before I started it was more like 2000-2500 a day. I ate all night long grazing. I also have been keeping heart burn a lot. I thought the weight loss would help make it better.

Only just saw this, so I'm late to the game and you may already have this figured out...!

How much caffeine do you have in your diet? Coffee, tea, soda, chocolate, anything else that may include it. I get palpitations when I have too much. I had all kinds of tests years ago to try and figure out why I was getting them and nothing showed up - it was only when I noticed that it was worse after having several cups of tea in a day that I tried cutting down and found it really helped!

That's only my personal experience and may not affect you at all, but it's something to try if nothing else seems to be wrong.

I don't do caffeine. I only have it on occasions and it is very little. It makes me jittery and hateful. I think it has something to do with my anxiety. My heart rate has been high for years at one point it got to 160 bpm while sitting down. I have gone through every test known to man and they say it's benign.

I have a drs appointment next week. I am going to have them check my iron levels and b12 level. I have been on stomach acid blockers for over 5 years. I can't take pepcid or prilosec because it causes palpitations. I am so hoping the zantac isn't causing this. If so I don't know what to do. Maybe with the weight loss I can quit them all together.

A multivitamin would contain b12. Even if you are against a multivitamin, it would be worth reconsidering.

I don't have any advice but I can sympathize. I have PVC's and the last month I have noticed an increase in them. Even though they are benign, they still cause some anxiety!

I had these for years and began to associate them with anxiety. Ironically, I had a very low caffeine intake then, but now consume 4 cups of coffee a day and only rarely get them now(one episode a few months ago was the first in over a year. I used to have them several times a day. I have finally gotten control over anxiety and depression so I credit that with solving the palpitation issues since it obviously is not related to caffeine.

Dehydration can do it for me. Make sure you drink enough water (might be more than think)

Well it's encouraging to hear "benign" but also if it's bothering you it's not really something to pass off either.
Hormone imbalances are very unaddressed and widespread among women, and can cause all types of symptoms including heart palpitations. There's a site called womenshealthnetwork.com you might like to check out and take their quizzes to assess yourself. Can you see a heart specialist, to rule out any problem with your heart? Also I personally find, as a woman, that seeing a doctor who is also a woman is best for me. I would suggest, try switching to another doctor, a female one, I think they give better care to another woman. IMO and in my experience.

I have palpatations in the form of pvc's. I have to take meds and I was diagnosed with dysautonomia in 2008 and recently had to undergo cardiac ablation for AVNRT. I've also had an episode of ventricular tachycardia when in hospital, so I think it depends on how many you have. A couple of missed beats is no big deal, or if you have palpitations with no symptoms, it's considered benign.

Something sounds a little off, have you had a holter monitor, 30 day monitor, or anything like that? No one knew I had AVNRT until I had a loop recorder implanted in October and I've have numberous holters/ekg's/30 day monitors, so maybe you need more extensive monitoring if this continues to be an issue. Or a new doctor.

I went to the doctor yesterday. So it seems a lot of my problems are from my gall bladder. He strongly advises that Ii have it removed. He is ordering an ultrasound and a complete blood panel.

I have palpitations as well and my cardiologist tells me the same thing nothing to be concerned about. But if anxiety is part of the cause it is difficult not to have some anxiety when you feel that skip in a beat. It's nice to hear how the rest of you deal with it in this post.

Good luck. My life is so much better after having mine out. Be smarter than I was, pay attention to the post-op eating instructions. I didn't and it was a big mistake.

I had heart palpitations that were resulting from my thyroid. Have you had your TSH, T3 and T4 levels checked? I ended up in atrial fibrillation and was diagnosed with Graves' disease in 2012. I was originally told mine were benign as well. After wearing a holter monitor for 30 days I was sent for thyroid labs and low and behold my TSH was undetectable. I did RAI and went the opposite and had palpitations again. 4 years later and I'm ALMOST normal (boring right?) again.

Good luck, op. I'm glad you found out the reason. Hopefully once your gallbladder is removed, you'll feel better.

I hope you can get a second opinion.
I hope you find suitable answers to this, so sorry you are experiencing this!
