any tips to stop bored eating?

I find myself eating while I am bored and I need to combat it with something more productive/less harmful to my weight loss. Problem is, snacks are so yummy and my cravings get the best of me!

Food such as potato chips and unhealthy snacks don't satisfy and only lead us to want more. I have a few snacks here and there but to prevent cravings I make sure I am getting enough protein in my diet and portioning what will allow myself to eat in the way of snacks. I like veggies and humus to snack on versus unhealthier options. Hope that helps! Also drink lots of water!0

I also have a really tough time with snacks between meals. I recently learned to crochet and that actually helps. It keeps me focused on something and keeps my hands busy. So maybe try a craft or something to keep your hands busy?0

Yeah he's right... Water and Protein is what helps me. I also get lost in a video game sometimes for a distraction. But one thing that works for me weirdly is brushing my teeth. Nothing really tastes good for me right after I brush my teeth or use mouthwash. So if I get a craving when I'm bored I just brush my teeth. A lot of the time the cravings gone by time my mouth is ready to except food again. (Weird Strategy I know... but it works for me)0 -

Good idea! I should keep healthier snacks around and maybe preserve more calories for snacking

The good thing about bored eating (at least for me) is that it's almost irrelevant what I'm eating. Sure a stack of brownies goes down easy, but I've found I'm just as easily satisfied eating a bunch of carrots. The calories can still add up, but it's much much less. Meanwhile, it'll give you a chance to work on habit change. Also, I noticed a bit less snacking when I upped my overall protein intake to about 160g.0

Hot drinks help me feel full so I don't pick. I'll make a herbal tea or coffee when I'm feeling snacky. Also, sometimes I cut up some veggies and put them nearby, so I'll be more likely to go for the veg than eat something unhealthy.0

There's nothing wrong with snacking if your calories allow it. I prepare most of my big meals know advance but also my go-to snacks. This might be some 0% Greek yoghurt (sometimes I add vanilla protein powder), 20g nuts, a square of dark chocolate, a warm drink, chia pudding, or a bit of very plain salad. These range from 50-200 cals and if you really can't keep away from them maybe consider eating smaller more frequent meals throughout the day instead of big meals and worrying about snacking. I weigh out loads of portions of 20g nuts at the start of the week and then it's super easy to log. I either weigh my yoghurt or buy 170g individual pots of a particular brand and then it's really easy to measure the impact of your snack on your calories. I have a really big appetite so simply can't function on 3 meals a day, I plan all my snacks too and eat a little bit less at every meal but I eat all day long0
