Success stories where no calories counted?

I know this site focuses on calorie counting, but I'm burnt out by counting. Again.

I know we humans have been able to be fit and healthy, for ages upon ages, without counting calories.

Can someone who has lost all their weight by eating healthy and exercising appropriately point out their success story?

Let me add-I'm not saying there's no value to counting. I just would rather take another track. And use this site for support.

Before I discovered MFP, I did it all on my own. I did watch my caloric intake but not by "counting". I just made sure I did not eat fast food, take out food, buffets, etc. I also cut out all carbonated beverages however I did go out for a beer or two now and then. Most people know what they "should" be eating but choose to make excuses instead of eating healthier. Or they think "I blew it today so I'll start tomorrow". Only tomorrow they usually say the same thing. I know... I was one of them for over a decade. :)

See my signature and read my blog. What I did to lose weight is in there. Good luck and stick with it! The reason I am only 3 pounds away from my goal is because I NEVER gave up. I stalled, yes, but I always jumped back with more determination than ever. :)

Yup I did. A few years ago I lived in Florida and worked overnights as did my husband. We got off work and went to the gym every day except the weekends. I did a circuit training thing they had there and ran on the treadmill; on the weekends we went to the beach when the weather was nice. I lost 50lbs that way and then promptly ended up pregnant (which it seems is not a concern for you lol) got lazy and gained it all back but I just got rid of the last of that "pregnancy" weight by using MFP.

Meant to add in there that I lost that first 50lbs in about 6 months.

I don't see how it is possible unless the person was still unconsciously creating a calorie deficit, without actually counting. I'll bump this cause I;m interested in reply's as well.

I just recently started counting my calories about a month and a half ago. Before I counted, I tried to eat "healthy" - 2 balanced meals and healthy snacks everyday (I'm a college student, so emphasis on tried; sometimes I just couldn't resist those couple slices of pizza, and I went out drinking literally every weekend), and I was in the gym 5-6 days a week for 2 hours at a time. I lost about 35 lbs. during that period, so it can be done if you're not counting!

That said, it's been so much easier to lose weight when counting calories; I'm losing weight faster than I did when I wasn't counting. Just sayin'.

Consistency is the key to success. Most dieters prefer variety hence the constant need to track everything.

If you are consistent and eat the same things day after day and you know their calorie content then you will be successful.

It's also a relief from the constant polar insanity thoughts that weigh on most of our minds CONTANTLY; "OMG, will I go into starvation mode???" or “Holy crap! How on earth did I eat 3000 calories today??” Stopping the count and being your healthy self which I personally have been for years is refreshing.

Take what you know about nutrition and take a week off from counting, NOT a week off from eating healthy but just the meticulousness of it all.

** All that being said, I like counting with the app b/c it gives me something to do on the Go Train to/from work in Toronto. If anyone else knows of apps that don't require the internet, let me know! :)

This guy is a major inspiration of mine. He started on Weight Watchers, counting points, but then just went to clean eating, not counting calories always, but always keeping portion sizes in mind.

Its easy if you eat healthier foods, cut the fast food/soda, don't binge and exercise daily. I've actually had a harder time losing the 50lbs I did the second time while counting calories but I'm pretty sure that has a lot to do with being exhausted and not having the time to work out every day (until recently) because of the littlest member of our family.
  • I exercised, and mainly watched what/how my skinny friends ate and copied them
The I went to university and life went to hell. And now I'm here

Not my story, but I saw a woman on a Korean diet site who lost 25kg/ 55lbs in one year just by exercising two hours a day. She claims she ate 2000-3000 calories a day (she didn't count, but that's her estimate, and she says she didn't change her eating habits at all) which I think is off... either that, or she's pretty active even outside of her exercise hours.

After losing 25kg, she was 110lbs at 5' 6", so it's not like she was obese (which would have helped lose weight faster).

Here's her post with pics, it's on a Korean site http://www.47kg.co.kr/shop/board/bbs_view.php?id=beforafter&no=3

I'm in the same boat. I used to be conscience of what I was eating and exercsing and seemed to lose weight. I started MFP and have gained 10lbs since starting, I'm not sure if it's because I'm constantly worried and obsessed about eating my calories and then eat too much or don't eat enough. It's a battle I'm going to have to overcome and soon so I stop gaining. I'm going to take a break from logging my food and just go back to the mentality that I had before MFP and see if that works.

A friend pointed out to me that it is all about "things in moderation".

While I do count calories, like many people I have my bad days. (Where I am unable to log, or forced to eat non-typical foods, etc.) I just pay attention to the amount. (Don't take large portions, or eat the bright colored things, etc.)

Another trick is to not use your "normal" dinner plates. They are way to big and people have the tendency to fill them. Instead use a small salad plate...that will help with keeping "things in moderation". Good luck!!!
