I was wondering, is it possible to have a low BMI like maybe 16.8 and still be healthy?

Replies

  • BMI is used as a guideline only, there are many factors to be considered for health.
That being said, 16.8 is pretty low.

BMI is based on population, so there will be outliers on both sides of the normal range. That said, most people will fall into the normal range at a healthy weight for their height. You should probably ask your doctor whether your weight is appropriate for your body/height rather than random strangers on the internet, especially since you're considering losing even more weight. Being underweight is unhealthy just as being overweight is.

People who under eat will ALWAYS say they feel fine. Go to a Registered Dietician and get a fair assessment.

99.9% of Ppl are not outliers on the small size of BMI. I was at an underweight Bmi a while ago due to an illness. I felt fine but, it was not fine. My body was not fine. Go to the Dr and see what they say. The reasons BMI doesn't work for everyone is for very muscular Ppl who are in peak condition. I have paralyzed calf muscles which means they weigh nothing because I can't build them up. I still need to be at a healthy weight.

No ..the underweight range is far more serious witg greater health risks than the overweight range ..the lowest BMI is 18.5... You are in dangerous territory and need a full medical work up

    Look at this case study

The very low BMI is the most worrisome finding

This is concerning. You can't pick where weight loss comes from.

    Case in point: ME

I've been 170 pounds (ouch) and 106 pounds. Guess what? I have fat thighs at both ends of the spectrum. 106 pounds was way too low for me (5'5" tall) - but I still had fat legs!

All you can do is get to a healthy weight. Strength train to shape your thighs, make them less jiggly. We have body types, this is genetic. Losing weight won't radically change genetics.

Yes, it is possible. Feeling fine is not the same thing as being healthy. If you want to know how healthy you are see a doctor.

You keep starting threads that result in the same answer ... your current weight is likely unhealthy and losing more weight is not a wise course.
