    I'm considering moving there! Any insights on the areas around Hampton? Or Richmond?

    There's a lot of crime in Hampton Roads. Research neighborhoods a bit because some are pretty bad. I'm in Virginia Beach currently.

    You might want to look at some national statistics. Virginia Beach is among one of the safest large cities in the US. Hampton, Portsmouth, Norfolk, Newport News, and Richmond crime rates would make Virginia Beach look like we don't even have crime at all.

    Richmond is an active city with lots of energy. I know both areas well (Hampton Roads and Richmond). The traffic in Hampton Roads keeps me further west.

    That's why we chose it when we moved here. I was referring to Hampton roads as a whole, not just Virginia Beach. I actually like my neighborhood, I feel pretty safe here. It's also maybe just my perspective... I'm from Boise, ID originally. I'm just not used to seeing a shooting or robbery on the news everyday.
