Loving MFP more than Facebook

Options
Hello MFP! Shoegirll here looking for some more motivation...lost 5 pounds in my first real week on MFP. I have been on and off before but not serious. Have some real goals in mind and need that motivation to keep it going. I honestly can say I find myself logging into MFP more than Facebook lately! Checking my stats, checking other people stats...this is a great place to be and happy to be here!

Totally with you. Facebook isn't the place anymore. I'm really focused on losing this weight and getting fit and checking in and hanging out here keeps my head where it needs to be.

Haha I canceled my Facebook account a couple months after finding MFP. This place is much more interesting and educational than the mindless, boring Faceache drivel. MFP has taken over from FB for sure!

Facebook is less about social networking and more about forwarding political memes, 'I love my daughter/son/husband' memes, 'share this if you hate cancer' memes...I can go on an on. It's no place to have real conversations anymore.

I just joined MFP last weekend and absolutely love it. I find myself becoming bored with FB. Still logging on but definitely not staying on as long.

They are two very different ways to socialise. Facebook is great. I like talking to all of my friends about life and different interests. MFP is where I talk specifically about weight loss. Not everyone in my life is that interested in the topic and I see no need to drone on and on to them about something they are not that interested in when I have people here to do that with. Nor do I come here to talk about my recent car purchase, day with my horse or favorite local restaurant.

It doesn't have to be one or the other. One is not better than the other. They have different purposes. At least for me.

I started mfp last year when I was taking a 6 month break from Facebook. I went back for about 5 months and decided to stop using it again this time most likely permanently. I feel Facebook has given everyone this sense that they need to have an opinion about everything and everyone with just little snippets. The drama was starting to mess with me emotionally and mentally. I saw more sadness and anger everyday. Nothing happy that was real. Ppl using the computer to treat Ppl like garbage. I want none of that. The Ppl I want to talk to are either on here or I have their phone number. I get more meaningful conversations and less useless drama.

When I decided to lose the last 20-25lbs I deactivated my Facebook. It was a time waster for me and prevented me from moving enough. It was a bad habit that j used to distract me. I thought if I could break the habit of staring at it, then I could get my food in line as well and get moving more. It has worked for me! I lurk here a lot and post occasionally. This site is great motivation and when you can see what is real info vs what is bro science it is a wealth of knowledge and starting points for research as well. I am close to goal and not sure if Facebook will be back in my radar or not once I get there. For now I will continue my goal and enjoy all the posts here.

Same! A few months ago my husband was saying I spent too much time on facebook (but not as much as him, haha) and a few days ago he was watching me on mfp and said he noticed how when I get interested in something I get really passionate/obsessed. Lol.

haha I have been on MFP more than facebook for the last several years, have a kick *kitten* group of friends on here and the forums are very entertaining :-)

Feel free to add me if you need more supportive or fun friends!
