Well...It would depend I guess. Would the jump rope be your only workout or used as cardio supplement to strength training?
And, are you a decent skipper or still getting coordinated with it?
I guess start with 15-20 min and work your way up? Unless it's used as a supplement, in which case 20min is probably fine

like- as in that's your ONLY workout?
Id' say at least 15 minutes.
you're not going to be able to do that you're going to be at like 1 minute- 2 minutes- 3 minutes.
You'll have to work you're way up. 15-35 minutes is decent. but it'll take a hot minute to get up to that. Be careful of shoulder injuries.0 -
If you can jump rope for 30 minutes your a beast.....absolutely some of the best cardio you could do along with heavy bag work.
When I was really out of shape I started with 1 min intervals with a 30 second break in between and even 10 minutes of that was brutal. I ended wit 3-4 10 minutes sessions with a 1 minute break in between.
That being said....If it's your only workout than I'd go for 30-45 minutes along with some bodyweight exercises. If your jumping after lifting I would say no more than 20 min.
Some really good vids on YouTube for technique and different rhythms.0 -
No it's not my only workout and yes I'm a beginner so I'll have to start off slowly.
Thanks for suggestions and input appreciate it.0 -
Your calves will get absolutely punished when you start off, take it easy, start off with a few sets of 30 seconds or a minutes, add some more volume week after week. If it's all I am doing for a quick cardio blast in the morning or something then I do maybe 5 of 5 minute sets with a minutes rest in between (gymboss is an awesome interval timer for this by the way), or say 10 or 15 minutes continuous after some weights.0

Agreed. I love skipping rope and find great results whenever I incorporate into my workout routine. I do 5 minute sets with 5 rounds of 45 seconds at a casual pace and 15 intense.0 -
