Palpitations

In the last week or so I have been having palpitations from time to time. I have always had them on and off all my life but lately it seems a big increase. A heart doctor said the were benign a few months back. Has anyone else seen an increase since starting a diet exercise regime.

Did you run your new diet and exercise regime past your heart doctor before beginning?0
-
Could it be that you are deficient in something like vit d, calcium, potassium, or magnesium? Do you take a daily multivitamin? Open your diary. Sometimes when people do extreme diets, they "miss out" on basic nutrients.0
-
How's your iron? I get tachycardia (racing heart) when doing nothing when I'm severely anaemic.0
-
My sister is anemic bad so is my son. They did tests twice. One Dr said it was low another said it was ok. I will try to find another dr mine moved away again, the second one in a year. I am thinking of going to urgent care tomorrow if it keeps up.
My diet isn't bad I am to have 1300 calories a day. But before I started it was more like 2000-2500 a day. I ate all night long grazing. I also have been keeping heart burn a lot. I thought the weight loss would help make it better.0 -
Thank you all for your replies. I will have my Iron checked there is a family history with Anemia. I think I will check out Urgent care tomorrow to see if it's ok.0

Only just saw this, so I'm late to the game and you may already have this figured out...!
How much caffeine do you have in your diet? Coffee, tea, soda, chocolate, anything else that may include it. I get palpitations when I have too much. I had all kinds of tests years ago to try and figure out why I was getting them and nothing showed up - it was only when I noticed that it was worse after having several cups of tea in a day that I tried cutting down and found it really helped!
That's only my personal experience and may not affect you at all, but it's something to try if nothing else seems to be wrong.0 -
I don't do caffeine. I only have it on occasions and it is very little. It makes me jittery and hateful. I think it has something to do with my anxiety. My heart rate has been high for years at one point it got to 160 bpm while sitting down. I have gone through every test known to man and they say it's benign.
I have a drs appointment next week. I am going to have them check my iron levels and b12 level. I have been on stomach acid blockers for over 5 years. I can't take pepcid or prilosec because it causes palpitations. I am so hoping the zantac isn't causing this. If so I don't know what to do. Maybe with the weight loss I can quit them all together.0 -

A multivitamin would contain b12. Even if you are against a multivitamin, it would be worth reconsidering.0 -
I don't have any advice but I can sympathize. I have PVC's and the last month I have noticed an increase in them. Even though they are benign, they still cause some anxiety!0

I had these for years and began to associate them with anxiety. Ironically, I had a very low caffeine intake then, but now consume 4 cups of coffee a day and only rarely get them now(one episode a few months ago was the first in over a year. I used to have them several times a day. I have finally gotten control over anxiety and depression so I credit that with solving the palpitation issues since it obviously is not related to caffeine.0

Dehydration can do it for me. Make sure you drink enough water (might be more than think)0

Well it's encouraging to hear "benign" but also if it's bothering you it's not really something to pass off either.
Hormone imbalances are very unaddressed and widespread among women, and can cause all types of symptoms including heart palpitations. There's a site called womenshealthnetwork.com you might like to check out and take their quizzes to assess yourself. Can you see a heart specialist, to rule out any problem with your heart? Also I personally find, as a woman, that seeing a doctor who is also a woman is best for me. I would suggest, try switching to another doctor, a female one, I think they give better care to another woman. IMO and in my experience.0 -
I have palpatations in the form of pvc's. I have to take meds and I was diagnosed with dysautonomia in 2008 and recently had to undergo cardiac ablation for AVNRT. I've also had an episode of ventricular tachycardia when in hospital, so I think it depends on how many you have. A couple of missed beats is no big deal, or if you have palpitations with no symptoms, it's considered benign.
Something sounds a little off, have you had a holter monitor, 30 day monitor, or anything like that? No one knew I had AVNRT until I had a loop recorder implanted in October and I've have numberous holters/ekg's/30 day monitors, so maybe you need more extensive monitoring if this continues to be an issue. Or a new doctor.0 -
I went to the doctor yesterday. So it seems a lot of my problems are from my gall bladder. He strongly advises that Ii have it removed. He is ordering an ultrasound and a complete blood panel.0

I have palpitations as well and my cardiologist tells me the same thing nothing to be concerned about. But if anxiety is part of the cause it is difficult not to have some anxiety when you feel that skip in a beat. It's nice to hear how the rest of you deal with it in this post.0

Good luck. My life is so much better after having mine out. Be smarter than I was, pay attention to the post-op eating instructions. I didn't and it was a big mistake.0 -
I had heart palpitations that were resulting from my thyroid. Have you had your TSH, T3 and T4 levels checked? I ended up in atrial fibrillation and was diagnosed with Graves' disease in 2012. I was originally told mine were benign as well. After wearing a holter monitor for 30 days I was sent for thyroid labs and low and behold my TSH was undetectable. I did RAI and went the opposite and had palpitations again. 4 years later and I'm ALMOST normal (boring right?) again.0
-
Good luck, op. I'm glad you found out the reason. Hopefully once your gallbladder is removed, you'll feel better.0

I hope you can get a second opinion.
I hope you find suitable answers to this, so sorry you are experiencing this!0 -
A lot of time palpitations can be from something as simple as dehydration. He's recommending it removed prior to an ultrasound?0

I am getting a bunch of blood work along with the ultra sound. I have been told for two years to have it out. He is actually my third opinion. I am terrified of the surgery but if the results show I should I will. The good thing I have found out during my office visit is my heart rate is close to normal. It was 85 at my last visit and before trying to lose weight and eating right it was always in the 100's.
I do believe some of the palpitations are from my anxiety. I am sure its a lot of it.0 -

From experience I can tell you that a 1 hour walk in the morning is like medicine, literally, for anxiety. Ask your doc to take blood levels of your hormones. Imbalance levels can give you all sorts of symptoms, and they can be corrected through diet/exercise or even bio-identical hormones, if necessary.0 -
those are the symtoms I had before the dr. told me I was going have a heart attact ,I go ahead and see the dr. Get your blood pressure checked. Sorry don't mean to scare you.0

Anxiety.. Bingo. Good luck. Surgery is relatively simple. Less than an inch incision.0 -

My blood pressure is perfect. I have never had a problem with it. If anything its been to low before but that was while taking birth control pills. It drops to 80/60 when I take them.

I have been walking for the last week so far I have gotten 4 days in. The other two days were really to cold for the kids. It takes me thirty minutes to walk a mile with both of them. I push one in the stroller while I yell at the other to either keep up or slow down. But they love it. We all have a good time.

Okay lol that's good!
It's going to be way more therapeutic for you to take a walk alone, and I have found that one hour is needed. But I'm a mommy, too, and I totally get it if you don't have help and can't get away.0 -
Are you having any issues with your gallbladder? from what I have read that palpitations from a gall bladder attack usually stems from a gall bladder infection, which is a sign of shock, I would get some ultrasounds and have them maybe do a holt monitor on you for a period of time to see if they can pick up anything on it, palpitations can be caused by anything, but I would worry about one thing at a time. This is also a what if scenario but what if you get the surgery and you still have the heart issues? or the palpitations are an underlying cause of something that surgery can make worse, say the anesthesia? then what? I would say have them refer you to a specialist and let them see if they can find out whats going on first.
I have heart problems, I have MVP/MVR and for me my symptoms have improved. never let a dr say they are benign, always get more than one opinion and see a specialist when it comes to things like that. doctors can misdiagnose things and some things dont always show on blood tests either(my condition doesnt). but good luck, hope you figure out what is causing it.0 -
I have had palpitations too. Seems to get worse when I drink too much caffiene especially Diet Coke and some medicines like Advil. Also if I drink more than a glass or two of wine or if I have alcohol. I am going through menopause so it may be cuz of that. It is worrisome and I understand your fear of surgery . I have a fear of that too. I also must take asthma medicine and low dose synthroid. But seems as if it can be from a lot of things ! Keep us posted.0

Its been a while since I posted on here. This is going to be way too much information. I just wanted to update what I have noticed. I notice the palpitations more when I am tired or stressed. Also I have noticed just like last month and this month I start having them a week or so before my period. And the worst day is the day I start. This month was the worst one I have ever had. I was dizzy on the first day and light headed. And just tired. I have also noticed in the last 6 months or so they have gotten heavier and more painful. So I think I may need to go see and OB doctor to find out what is going on. Before I got pregnant with my second one the dr said I looked like I had endrometrosis. At that time I was having the same symptoms with a blood pressure drop when I started.0
