How often do you eat garlic?

I've been eating a clove everyday with various meals. Used to only eat it at baseball games (garlic fries).
Garlic is like having a great dancer at your party, IMO.
Does anyone eat garlic and how often? My great aunt was married to an Italian man from the old country and he told me he ate 3-4 cloves a day and never been sick in his life. I believed him.
Do you enjoy garlic?

I put it in everything. My husband loves it and it is an important part of the flavour profile of a ton of different cuisines, whether I'm cooking Mediterranean, Latin American, Middle Eastern, Asian...
A couple of nights ago I made him his favourite chicken dish, which features chicken thighs, four peeled, whole heads of garlic (like 50 cloves), white wine, and thyme. It's simmered a long time until the garlic is soft and has lost its "bite" and it's delicious. I ate a little bowl of just the cloves. He likes to spread them on toast (also works with roasted garlic.)
I figure as long as we're both eating it it's fine...0 -
we put in everything! Usually have it everyday. It's particularly yummy roasted in the oven, no need to peel it first, you can eat the skin and all cooking it like this.0
-
I don't know if it has any detrimental effects, but I eat a ton of it too (sadly a little less than I used to since moving away from home).
The only time I've heard of anyone tapering their intake back intentionally was due to the smell that began seeping through their pores. It wasn't really bad either; it was just enough for them to notice and feel self-conscious.0 -
Probably too often for me lol....at every meal0

I use garlic in cooking pretty often. I don't just eat a clove by itself though.
Garlic and onions are kind of kitchen essentials.0 -
I grow about 150 heads a year in garden and it doesn't last the winter. my husband does the cooking and he must put in everything.0
-
I love garlic! Could easily eat it every single meal but I work with the public so I only eat it in the evening if I'm off work the next day.
Sometimes I wish I didn't care what others thought0 -
Does anyone log Garlic? I must admit, I never have.0

I love garlic and sometimes eat a lot of it. No one has ever said I smelled like it.0

Yeah. I don't weigh it but I'll log a clove.
I used to eat a clove per day. I eat the same things a lot and haven't been needing it in my current dinner. Hm...kind of miss it. I've been using a lot of garlic powder though0 -
i eat garlic powder every single day0
-
I use it for/in dinners 2-3 times a week.0

I buy the big jar of minced garlic for most things. I roast bulbs of garlic for pizza nights and just for the joy of roasted garlic.0

@Christine_72 I'll weigh it and log it... but then again I do use a whole lot of garlic for some dinners, sometimes I"ll use maybe half a head of garlic or sometimes a whole head when I make roasted garlic to mix with butter. I love garlic (and I used to hate even the smell of it)! I use it everyday... if I only use a couple cloves, I'll still weigh it.

Hmmmm I might start weighing and logging it. I usually use a minimum of 3-4 cloves when making a meal for 2 of us.0 -

Yes, I'm curious too. I won't be using the 1000 calorie per clove entry in the database though0 -
I like it, but when I'm "dieting" I don't eat it much. I find that my recipes that call for it are high calorie dishes that I don't make when I'm watching what I eat.0

Haha only sometimes. I used to work with a real uh not nice lady in close quarters and she would have let me know . She hated me because I was fat so any excuse to say stuff.
Onions now that a different story altogether LOL. I had a boyfriend years ago that hated onions and was determined to make me hate them by making a 3 course dinner filled with onion dishes - even dessert was apples with onions. Didn't work. Lol But I did cut back on them.0 -

I have a good friend who eats a lot of garlic. Her breath can be pretty bad. Maybe it depends on the person?

I have 2-4 cloves daily and log each clove at 4 calories each.0

I read that garlic powder doesn't contain much, if any, allicin (the magical compound that is produced after crushing a clove). Is this true?0
-
Never, unless I want to puke or have the runs for hours to came!! Sorry about the description but that is what garlic does to me. Even the smell gives me nausea. I only tolerate a little bit of garlic powder in my food without terrible consequences.
Obviously, I stay away from italian food unless they are able to remove the garlic from my meals.0 -
Only 1 or 2 times a week, mostly garlic powder to marinate meats...Yes, great for your health0

Garlic, pepper, and chili powder are my favorite go to seasonings!0

Ditto that. All three of those spices make it into most of meals. Plus the added bonus of chili is that it makes you drink so much during your meal that you fill up quickerClubSilencio wrote: »I read that garlic powder doesn't contain much, if any, allicin (the magical compound that is produced after crushing a clove). I'm not sure, but i seriously doubt the dry powdered stuff has any health properties... Fresh is always best.0
