In need of some motivational friends!

I am in pretty serious need of some motivational and maybe at times down right critical friends here on MFP!!!
Most all of my personal friends are too skinny to join with me. Which is really depressing. We just had a girls night and UGH the pictures were dreadful... But of course, they were all put on Facebook because everyone else looked great - can't blame them, I guess!
I need someone to yell at me when I log chocolate cake in my food diary or when I don't finish a log. Here's my long story..
I've never had to work this hard for fitness. I was chronically skinny aside from a pudgy 6th grade year. I always played sports and then ran cross country for a couple years in high school - AND FELL IN LOVE with it. At 120 lb, I started college, got married, got pregnant, started an awesome job AT A DESK rather than the usual restaurant, and 9 months and 70 pounds later, I delivered a beautiful boy. WOW.
I couldn't believe it. I was so busy with full time work, full time school, and a newborn, that the thought of doing something for myself ... well, I didn't even have the time to think about it!
Now I'm on summer break from school and my son turns 3 this month. So, I've recently found the time for myself. I started running again on March 14th. 13 weeks later, I have missed ONE single day - I was trying to make the transition from evening running to mornings!
I was certain that running again would take care of things for me. But I quickly found it wasn't enough and reluctantly started counting calories. I'm only 21! I shouldn't have to do this, right??? I'm told it could be because of the "polycystic ovarian disease" but I'm determined that with everything else aside: burning off more calories than you consume = weight loss. So, I'm not giving up just yet!
Now, just because I am counting them doesn't mean I'm staying under! (Tisk, tisk, I know!) I try my hardest but I probably go over my limit every other day. I also switched up my runs - I was STUCK at a 12 min mile - I just don't perform well at 4:30am - so, I dusted off the P90X videos and Plyometrics is my new best friend. I alternate every other day - P90X, run, P90X, run, etc. I'm at 3.75 miles now - my goal is 6 miles. I don't have a rest day. I know, I know, some people think this is important but I just can't afford it right now. I'm terrified of taking a day off. A day off for me could turn into another 3 years.
If you think you're good for me, request me as a friend and if you don't look too creepy, I'll approve you and would love to have your help!

Haha that's okay! The running just grows on you after a while I never thought I would like it when I started in HS but I had the BEST coach and team. Good luck to you too!0

I completely understand where you are coming from. I was never "chronically skinny", but I was in a lot better shape than I am now. After 15 years behind a desk and a relatively sedentary lifestyle, 40 lbs ago I was at the heaviest weight I had ever been in! I still have a long way to go, but am finding my momentum and do find the days I don't exercise, I feel not bad, but wierd the next day. I typically do at least 20 minutes of the Jillian Michael 30 day shred video. I am much more out of shape than you, and have a bad knee, so it is frustrating that I can do aerobics like I used to. I am considering rejoining Jazzercise again, I loved doing it way back when and went to a couple classes a day. I looked good and want to find my shapely legs again!
Sadly, not all women are built the same and you will find as you get older when you are in your early 20's, mid 20's, early 30's mid 30's that your body changes in all sorts of ways. The bottom line, is that you do have to take in less calories than you burn. Even if you fit in 20 minutes of exercise then you will burn calories. You don't want to over do your self with exercise, but on the days that you are "breaking" I'll bet you are still burning a lot of calories chasing your 3 year old. Does he ride a bike yet? If so, take him on a bike ride or put him on the back of yours. Even a liesurely bike ride is spendning time with him, plus doing something good for yourself and getting some exercise in. If you don't have a bike, then put him in a stroller and take a walk. I always thought people were crazy at Weight Watchers when they said go take a walk, drink water if you are having the munchies. They aren't. I wasn't getting anywhere with Weight Watchers so I started doing this, and am doing really well. Plus, the people I have friended and who have friended me have all been super nice.
I weigh a lot more than you and my body requires according to MFP website to eat 2700 calories to sustain myself. They recommended 1730 calories a day, but I dropped it down to 1500 calories. I know that on a day I have the munchies that even if I go over my calorie goal for the day, as long as I keep it at 1730 or less I am good. Another thing I learned is weigh and measure EVERYTHING! I know it is a major pain, however, you will surprise yourself how a "normal" serving to you is not a normal serving. Food last longer, and you become aware that 1 oz of the pepperidge farm chocolate fish is 140 calories - do I want to give those calories up for some crackers that won't fill me up or you could spend those calories on something more satisfying like meat and a salad. One thing I don't measure is my salad. I measure the dressing, and anything I top it with that is not a vegetable.
I don't know if I'll ever be critical to you - but I will motivate you and cheer you on the best I can. The most important thing you can do is be honest with yourself about every morsel of food you put in your mouth. Maybe your "skinny" friends haven't had the same lifestyle as you have in your young life, not all became mothers at 19 years old I am sure, and not all had a desk job at 19 either. We have to deal with what life deals, and I am sure you are more beautiful in many ways than they are. Don't compare yourself to others. I struggle with that myself sometimes. God made you and made you the way he wanted and you are a beautiful person because of that. You have a husband that loves you, friends and family who really probably don't care if you weigh 140 or 240. You can do it!
I have an android phone - HTC EVO 4G and MFP has mobile applications for android and iPhone. I love it. I have a scanner app, and when entering foods I can just scan the bar code and it finds it. Sometimes (rarely) it comes up as something different, but overall it is usually on the nose. It makes logging food so easy, plus this database always has what I am looking for. If I find one that is listed multiple times, then I will check to see which one was verified the most and use that.
Good luck to you! Just take it one day at a time - don't beat yourself up if you go over calories. Make sure you are getting enough calories too, cause you don't want to have to little. Find foods that satisfy you and try to find lighter versions. Only splurge on very special occassions.

I am pretty obsessed with running also and I have had stress fractures 2 times. Suffering from them now... Be careful!! It would be nice to have a running "friend" I will add you....0 -
Thanks so much for that! I do need a bicycle .. My toddler hasn't quite figured it out yet though. I think I'm doing really great on the exercise portion of things - it's just the diet that kills me! I have an iPhone and there is NO way that I could keep track of things without it! The scanner app thing is neat - I hadn't thought to use it for MFP! I struggle most at dinner time.. I typically cook something fast and easy - by the time I log everything, I'm totally shocked how many calories it had in it! I think you're right, especially at dinner time, portion control could go a long way with me. Thanks so much for your kind words, congrats on 40, and I look forward to our MFP friendship!0

Well, I probably won't be that friend that will kick your butt over the chocolate (I'm not into feeling guilty about one or two slip-ups here and there, but if it's a whole cake then maybe lol) and I HATE running (wish I loved it) but I have an almost 1 year old boy, so I totally understand how it feels to put on all that pregnancy weight and then to realize that to reach your weightloss goals you really do have to find time to focus on yourself and sometimes that's just as hard as dieting or exercising. My friends are also not really the ones I can rely on for motivation either, as some are already very fit and others are all talk until we go out to dinner together and push the extra basket of chips and salsa! Add me if you'd like, I could use some more friends as well!0
