GM diet for a jump start to weight loss

Hi there! I've started the GM diet 7 day jump start and I'll post my progress here. I'm a healthy fit 41 year old, but I am trying this out as an experiment, if you will. I know how to diet and exercise to stay fit, again, it's just an experiment. So far, day 1, I've had a cup of coffee and 2 " meals". One meal consisted of cut up apples and oranges sprinkled with tajin. Meal #2 was mango and pineapple, again with tajin, for flavor. I've noticed I'm hungry if I'm not drinking a lot of water, so I think that's going to be key. My stomach feels empty, but not hungry. My only concern is the sugar I'm taking in. I am not a sugar person, so we will see how this affects me.

This fad diet was blasted in a previous thread (that you posted to) .....so you're are you looking for a better opinion this time?
This diet has been around for decades....aka Dolly Parton Diet, Fat Burning Soup Diet......but now it has been relabeled a "cleanse."

Ugh, why would anyone do this to themselves? So you will "experiment" on yourself for a week and then tell us what? If you lose weight, it will be mostly water weight. You'll gain it back. And if you don't lose weight, you will report back with what we already know, this is a fake fad diet that doesn't help.
Your body isn't a car, it doesn't need a jumpstart.0 -
Experiments usually have a structure -- things like more than one participant and a hypothesis to test. Who are the other participants? What is the hypothesis?0

Oh god. I just went to the website http://gmdietnow.com/ Run. Run now. It has all the flags. You are going to *kitten* yourself for 7 days to "cleanse" and "detox." If this weight stays off for a month I will be shocked.0

Quick weight loss plans will help you lose weight.... which you'll just gain back when you start a more reasonable, sustainable plan. Your "GM Plan" is complete trash. Instead, let MFP help you figure out your daily calorie requirements, set a reasonable goal, and invest in yourself. THIS TAKES TIME. If you want to keep the weight off, plan on making lasting changes, not eating freakin' cabbage soup for a week. Yes, you will lose weight, and be incredibly uncomfortable with gas, bloating, diarhhea, etc.0 -

Oh honey, did you hope this thread would go better than the other you posted in? So sorry you feel you have to treat your body so poorly to lose weight. Be safe - I hope you're staying home and have someone watching you while you try this extreme crash diet.0

Oh boy! I've opened a can of worms here. It's unfortunate some people feel the need to be ugly when replying. Relax. I'm not someone looking for a miracle. I'm quite fit and most would consider me slender. I'm trying something out. If it sucks, I stop. I'm not committed to anything. I regret posting at all, and now I know why I haven't in the 3 years since using this app. Have fun trolling and criticizing people.0

It isn't trolling to point out a silly fad diet is a silly fad diet. When you post to a community like this, you open yourself to all responses, and many people here are very conscious that newbies and lurkers will find this forum which searching for info on this 'diet' plan, and no one wants them to find a thread full of "way to go, OP!" "you've got this!" because it just perpetuates the worst of the diet myths.
To be honest, I'd classify promoting this ludicrous diet more "trolling" than pointing out that it's a fad is.0 -

It's more criticizing the GM diet than you, although I understand from some other posters that you've been in or started this thread elsewhere. They may be criticizing that.
No one who actually likes people will support this diet. If I ever get an evil villain volcano layer, yes. I will sit back and cackle as I encourage people pooping and dehydrating themselves in the name of health. Til then, I hope these awful cleanses are recognized for what they are. Bilge.0 -
OK, to be clear, it's my first time using the community. So earlier today I was looking for posts on this "fad", and I believe I commented on someone else's post. Then, I started, or tried to start my own so I can document how it goes. I don't see the need to criticize that. Whatever. I'm in no way doing anything in the name of health, it's a 7 day experiment, if it even lasts.0

To be clear, criticism of this harmful diet is not the same as criticism of you. This diet nor any other will magically jump starts weight loss. This diet nor any other will remove toxins. This diet nor any other extremely low calorie diet is safe for someone anywhere a healthy weight. This diet is actively harmful.
To put it in perspective, here's a day to day breakdown for anyone else considering this "experiment." I am sure I missed some magic details, as I got this information without buying anything.
Day 1.
Fruit, not bananas. Melons and apples are recommended. Even ignoring the lack of fat and protein, this is bad from a purely fuel related perspective. I doubt anyone will cram in the massive amounts needed to hit MFP's calorie goal because you'd need...
9.56 pounds of casaba melons, or
8 pounds of honeydew melons, or
6.60 pounds of watermelon, or
5.15 pounds of fuji apples
...to hit 1200 calories.
Day 2.
Eat vegetables, no fruit. One baked potato allowed in the morning. You can "enjoy" all vegetables in salad form, with white or wine vinegar, lemon and herbs for flavoring. No salad dressing, because that's just wacko. I believe beans and lentils are right out as well.
So now you need to approach MFP's minimum calorie goal with
1 baked potato 130-280 calories according to MFP
1200 calories with leafy greens would be...
17.85 pounds lettuce, or
10.16 pounds spinach, or
10 pounds cabbage.
Other vegetables would be more calorie dense and cut down on the sheer bulk, but as one of the websites I referenced specified "salad" these are the ones I looked up. Again, the volume needed to get adequate calories is ridiculous. Again, there are no fats or proteins allowed.
Day 3
Fruits and vegetables, no bananas or potatoes. One website recommended having your fruits and veggies in smoothie form this day. I assume it is because you are losing the power to chew.
Day 4
Out of pity, and because you've probably got hemmeroids by now, you are allotted 8 bananas(840 calories) and 3 glasses of milk(270-450 calories). You will need the fuel, for today the unlimited cabbage soup begins.
Day 5
Up to 20 ounces of lean beef, and exactly 6 tomatoes. Why beef? Why not. You can hit 1000 calories on just 20 ounces of 90% lean ground beef, but why nothing and then 1.25lbs of cow? Why all the weirdness? Would 5 or 7 tomatoes break the cleanse? Why not just eat like a normal human all 7 days?
Day 6
This is the day that you finally, finally get to eat in a way that resembles a normal person. Unlimited vegetables and lean protein! There's no mention that cooking oil is allowed, or fruit, or grains, and I think lentils and beans are still out.
Day 7
Brown rice, lean protein, vegetables, fruit juice (no sugar added) and relief that the madness has almost ended. You are supposedly "cleansed."
After wading through the online pit that was these diet websites I can only conclude that you are supposed to give yourself a stomach ache to rival all others. This way, when you feel like crap because you're eating like crap you may imagine toxins are being expelled. Also, when you are light headed from insufficient foods, you will feel euphorically cleansed. Don't buy into it.0 -
Nobody here is attacking you op or trolling. They are giving you the honest truth about the gm diet and all other fad diets like it.
While you say you are just experimenting with this diet, you are not considering the fact that this site has many lurkers who don't know much about weight loss yet . these members are too afraid or shy to ask questions for themselves so search these boards seeking information. If we left these types of diets unchallenged, then these lurkers could read it and think its a good idea. While you think it's a fine plan, it isn't. Its a fad and fads don't end with lasting results . I surely wouldn't want a lurker or newcomer to read about the gm diet and believe it is a good idea.

So an admittedly slim and athletic dieter with demonstrably poor evaluative skills will follow a fad diet for seven days and enlighten us all with the results.

The fact that I used a response similar to that in my youth when offered sexual experimentation was probably a bad idea and why I am not very good in the chit chat forum.0 -
