I'm thinking of starting a low carb high protein diet. Any recommendations? Any comments? My brother has been doing it and has been losing weight faster. I just want to hear other views.

Find out about the pros and cons of low carb, so that you'll know if it is something that can be useful for you. Do not try to eat high protein - low carb is high fat and moderate protein. Weight loss rate depends on lots of factors; the size of the calorie deficit, men usually lose faster than women, heavy people faster than lighter people, and the initial fast weight loss on low carb is water weight and not fat.

Low carb is usually high fat as well. DON'T let that scare you. Fat has gotten a bad rap.
Low carb high protein is meant more if you are a serious athlete or trying to build muscles at the same time and need the protein to rebuild the muscles after you work them.
I would suggest Why We Get Fat by Gary Taubs. I lost 100 pounds using this Style Of Eating and that is what low carb is, a style of eating. If you lose the weight and then go back to eating like you are now you will gain the weight back. You can moderate back in carbs after you lose the weight but you still need to mentally think, "Do I really need this carb?"
Also EVERY diet's initial weightloss is water weight. That is why every advertised program promotes that you will lose so much in the first couple of weeks.
Some other styles to look into are Paleo and Ketogenic styles of eating. We are individuals so I suggest looking at several styles in the low carb arena and see what you think will work for you. Stick with a plan for 3 months and if it is not working try a new one.
Energy levels are also person to person. I felt better and had more energy after a while. Yes, I did not have the sugar boost or the caffeine jolt but I also didn't have crashes. You brain "fog" should also improve. You won't become a super genius but your mind won't be so scattered.
You may also feel like crap after a couple days as your body adjusts. It sometimes called the Keto Flu.
Good luck and even if you don't find low carb to work for you keep moving forward.

Here is a link to the low carb group which has a lot of good information in.

The post above is incorrect that it is for athletes. LCHF diets are used for epileptics, IR, PCOS all type of things.

Personally I'm not a fan of it and prefer IIFYM but each to their own. Just don't waste your time on reading Taubes!

Try the Whole30. It is lower carb and focuses on eating the right amount of fat. It will also get rid of the sugar bunnies. The meal template really works.

Low carb diets lose weight FAST at the beginning.
A trick for long term weight loss is to eat a calorie deficit.
Does not matter what diet you follow.
It's all about the daily calories !!! - Yes, that simple.
I'm high fiber/ high carb and losing weight.
