Food, water and blood pressure!

Has any member that had or has high bp notice that it goes up when you miss meals or do not drink enough. Today is a bad day eating for me only had an egg white sandwich n 1 glass water bp was fine this morning but now way upppp. Im finding it is doing this more and more. Thanks

I am on bp meds (Coversyl) but I dont monitor my levels everyday. But I do know that if I use excessive (for me) salt/sodium rich foods, I can retain water, which affects blood pressure. The solution? Drink drink drink water and flush your system. Next time you see your health practitioner, you may want to discuss this with him/her.0

I'm on a bp medication also. Mine goes up and down all day. If I eat or drink it goes up a lil then back down. But I keep it regular by drinking a lot of water like the cross2bear said. I also drink cranberry juice because it keeps me going to the bathroom. Between cranberry and water in at the bathroom about 15/20 a day. Irritating sometimes but I'm getting a regular flushing.0

I was told that you can not drink that much water with high bp as it is hard on the kidneys. Mine was 130s/80s all day then I went downstairs to bathroom came up was 195/120 then I sit for 5 minutes back down but I do not know why it did that and now all day it will continue to do it. Thanks and really 15/20 times a day WOW.0 -
Definitely don't skip meals and make sure you're eating enough and water for everyone is HUGE. It's hard to eat enough when you're trying to eat better and count calories, but its super important, especially if you have high bp.0

My job requires a lot of bending, twisting, reaching, and kneeling so my pressure goes up until I take a break then it goes down as I relax. There's just so many factors when it comes to blood pressure. Even the doctor says it goes up and down. All I can say is take your meds, eat right, drink plenty of water, exercise and get to know your specific pressure situation because everyone is different. That's why there's more than one medication for bp.0

It went up because you went down and up the stairs. That is how blood pressure works. It goes up when you are active. I remember when the winter Olympics were in Vancouver they had those little video segments about one of our long track speed skaters, when he is skating his blood pressure goes up to 200 over some other seemingly high number all because of what he is doing. When he is resting it drops do something like 100/60 (I don't remember the exact number). BP is supposed to be taken when you have rested for 5 minutes or so, and ideally not for an hour after intense activity.
I am on BP meds as well, I take my BP in the morning, rarely a second time in the evening. Lately it has been around 117/80, but I am guessing since I just did my workout right now it would be substantially higher.0 -

Mine was up around 220/160 as discovered when I had a stroke (not related). Meds brought it down originally, although they took a while to do so. The doctors didn't expect me to maintain a blood pressure below 140/90, but with exercise and weight loss, I have gotten off of several meds, and got it much lower than they expected. I put the weigh back on for various reasons, but stayed active, so my BP has not gotten out of hand. It is much lower when the weight it lower, so this time I am taking the approach of eating the calories I need to maintain my goal weight even though it is still 30Kg away. I will lose slower, but all the time I am doing that I am learning how to eat at the correct amount to maintain my weight. As for food, I don't find my BP is affected a lot by it. That may have more to do with the medication, but I do know some people's high BP is not linked to sodium.0 -

I personally noted that if I was holding my bladder, my BP read high. Though talking is listed as one of the reasons BP spikes, I noted that mine is stable. I must like people. BP goes up and down all day; it is snakier than the weigh scale.0
