TMI question regarding BM's

I take opiate medication for chronic pain and am having problems with constipation. I eat over my daily required amount of fiber and drink tons of water, yet I only have a BM about twice a week. Any suggestions other than taking meds? Thanks for any advice.

Chamomile tea, ginger tea, exercise, cut out any dairy, fried and over processed foods.

Also drink warm/ hot water with your meals. It aids in digestion, relieves gas and helps loosen stool.

Second this. Magenesium and a good quality probiotic, taken before bed on a preferably empty stomach

Cut way back on insoluble fiber, because it plugs you up. Soluble fiber like inulin is fine. Take Magnesium Citrate caps/tabs twice a day morning and evening.

I'm not a tea drinker, but I did get some Magenesium and have been taking it a few days. It's either coincidence or it kicks in pretty quickly. Thanks so much everyone, my belly feels so much better!

Magnesium works because it acts as a stool softener. Take it with eater.

Eat prunes or drink a bit of prune juice. A little of those go a long way, so be careful when first trying them. 1-3 prunes or a glass of juice daily. A yogurt in the mornings helps too.

If you're eating over your goal in fiber, make sure you are not under on fat :) I learned this the hard way. I literally drank a cup of black coffee with olive oil and gave myself an abdomen massage..problem solved.

I have same issues, I take stool softeners every night without laxatives. (Docusate sodium) will have to try the magnesium!!

I think there's a lot of individual variability. I'm currently drinking a cup of instant coffee that is a Polish brand with added magnesium - I can't imagine that's a guaranteed laxative :-)

On a high fat diet drinking gallons of coffee a day I was always amused by suggestions of "drinking more water", coffee or "more fat".
