1000 reps gym class

Last week we did a 1000 rep gym class. We got 10 moves (eg. DB step ups, bicep curls, body rows, push ups) and had to do a 100 of each in an hour. I basically took the 10 moves, did 10 of each for 10 rounds. My body felt like jelly after I was done, but halfway through I was almost bored out of my skull. I had to use very light weights, but in the end it felt like more of a cardio session than a strength class. I'm just wondering if such a session is any good as I saw most people just had such bad form in the end and trying to rush through the moves just to finish. I certainly will not attempt it again as I hate doing the same thing over and over again!

I have never heard of this and don't understand how it would be useful to lift very light weights to failure with poor form. I would not go back either0

One of my fitness class instructors like to do 650 pyramid style workout. 12 rounds. Round 1 is 12 reps of exercise A. Round 2 is 12 reps of A and 11 reps of exercise B and so on. You end up doing 144 reps of ex A by the time you're done.
I think it's crazy and leads to a lot of sloppiness. I suppose the theory is to build endurance.
I end up doing fewer reps so I can keep up with rest of class, maintain good form, and prevent injury.0 -
It sounds like those scams more like an insanity or p90x workout. You don't need a class to help you get in shape just watch some strength training YouTube videos0

Sorry but this class does not sound good.0

That just sounds yucky. And not fun.

That's not "strength training"...true strength training (training to optimize strength) is done with low reps and at high % of your max for a given lift. The type of work you're describing is for muscular endurance...and I would say to excess if form is breaking down.0

That sounds like a body pump or circuit type class. i have done circuits like that before, They don't tell us we are doing 1000 reps but if i were to add up all the reps at the end of the hour, it would be a lot. Its good for cardio and endurance.

It's circuit type of class that relies on volume and repetition to keep the class one hour long. I've seen it many times around the gyms I've instructed at. It can be useful if one is trying to build endurance and use every main muscle in the body, but most people at the gym are trying to just look and feel better and not put themselves through very arduous workouts like this.

Thanks for your replies. I just thought there is some or other scientific explanation for doing this kind of program every now and then. I thought there was something wrong with me for getting bored out of my mind and I should work on my attitude. All the other ladies are asking for a repeat session. But I will definitely not attend!!!0
