I personally just can't take a rest day... I know I should but I feel like if I do I'll lose progress ...and I know that's not true either. Yesterday I tried taking a rest day but then .. I got bored

rest day from what? There is no need for a rest day if all you are doing is walking 5 miles/day. If you are strength training then maybe you need a rest day depending on the split (you can do PPL 6x/week, and some people do squat every day, which is of course 7x/week, but that is considered an advanced program).

Rest days are great though. They really help me recover and I perform way better after a good rest. For example, I can do significantly more pull ups after a good 2 days rest and before doing any exercise than if I do them after exercising recently. Rest day also doesn't mean sit on your butt and watch TV or browse the internet all day either. They don't have to be boring.

You just need a rest day from a particular exercise. ie, not running 7 days a week (Unless you're an extreme athlete), not benching 7 days a week, etc etc.

If you work your chest every other day, you're getting 3 or 4 rest days a week for your chest group :)
