I personally just can't take a rest day... I know I should but I feel like if I do I'll lose progress ...and I know that's not true either. Yesterday I tried taking a rest day but then .. I got bored

rest day from what? There is no need for a rest day if all you are doing is walking 5 miles/day. If you are strength training then maybe you need a rest day depending on the split (you can do PPL 6x/week, and some people do squat every day, which is of course 7x/week, but that is considered an advanced program).
Rest days are great though. They really help me recover and I perform way better after a good rest. For example, I can do significantly more pull ups after a good 2 days rest and before doing any exercise than if I do them after exercising recently. Rest day also doesn't mean sit on your butt and watch TV or browse the internet all day either. They don't have to be boring.0 -

You just need a rest day from a particular exercise. ie, not running 7 days a week (Unless you're an extreme athlete), not benching 7 days a week, etc etc.
If you work your chest every other day, you're getting 3 or 4 rest days a week for your chest group0
