Burning fat

I was watching a weightloss video yesterday and it said that you only start to burn fat after 30 minutes of exercise is this true?

It depends on what you eat... your body uses carbs for fuel primarily, so you generally have to go through those before it'll start burning fat. It's a generalization.

Right, so it's just generally how long your body takes to get through those carbs which is probably different for everyone

Try not to let things like that cloud your mind. Just focus on a calorie deficit + exercise for health, and you will burn the fat all in due time.

The key to burning fat is in the bolded section. Not how many minutes one does cardio. You can use cardio to increase the -CO portion of the CICO equation for sure, but focus on a deficit if you want to lose fat.

    No.

Edit: I guess my original answer wasn't all that useful so this link may help you understand the situation better:

    Fat Burning Myths

In short, you are better concentrating on the number of calories you burn per session rather than worrying how much fat you are burning.

Being in calorie deficit is what burns fat. You use cardio to help create it, but if you consume more calories than you burn in a day, then fat loss doesn't happen.
In relation to your question, doing steady state cardio at a moderate pace will burn fat, but the percentage for fuel is pretty insignificant. This is just broscience that gets passed around from person to person.

It takes a monumental effort to get through all the glycogen stores in the body to "hit the wall". This would entail basically freezing up and falling on the ground or stopping altogether because one can't physically continue.

As mentioned above, it takes a monumental effort to burn though all your carbs. Especially in 30 minutes.

For a person my weight and height and ability to store glycogen, I can make it through about 80 minutes of Triathlon Sprint racing before I run out. I usually hit the gels when I get on my bike though anyway. I really don't have any interest in running low on fuel. What a horrid thing to do to my body. I used to do it and got ill every time.

I lose weight by a slight overall calorie deficit. I fuel up for all my training, never use training for fat burning.
Maybe yoga and walking I might consider doing fasted.

Have you considered starting your fueling before your first 80 minutes are up? Personally, for longer endurance events I would start with the additional fueling no later than 30 minutes into it...
