I have been on here since 2011. Premium wasn't offered when I started out. I do use it now because the features fit what I need for bodybuilding competition prep. Most people don't need most of the features, but there are people who benefit greatly from some of the premium features.0

Initially I did this all on my own. When I lost significant weight and started working with a trainer he set up my calorie and macro goals. It's nice that he can check out my food logs here and I can make adjustments.
MFP's calorie goals are set pretty well. Most people select a goal that is too aggressive. People with less than 50 pounds to lose should set their goal to 1 pound per week and people with 20 or less pounds to lose should consider setting theirs to half a pound per week. The initial protein goal is a bit low, but other than that most people can do well following this app without a coach/trainer/nutritionist/etc.0 -
