Overnight oatmeal in a jar???????

Has anyone tried these. Do they actually taste good? I see them all over Pinterest and wonder if it is worth the effort to make them.

    One of my fave breakfasts. you can make a week's worth on Sunday night and just grab one on the way to work. I like to put chopped frozen berries in mine, they are cheaper than fresh and give off lots of juice as they thaw so they flavor the whole cup. I use equal parts plain greek yogurt, unsweetened vanilla almond milk, oats, and frozen fruit. And sometimes a few chocolate chips :)

    I tend to do berries as well, and flax or chia seeds.

    I think I am going to give it a whirl. So if you are making them on Sunday, they still taste good by Thursday/Friday?

    I eat this a few times a week. I like the texture of oats. It's chewier than cooked. I prefer it this way or dry oats mixed with yogurt. I'm not a big fan of cooked oats.

    I have four jars that I use. I put the oats and protein powder in all four at the same time. Then I put them back in the cupboard until the night before I want one. I put the fruit and milk in at that point and stick it in the fridge. I've never let one sit in the fridge any longer than that because I don't want the oats to be too soft.

    My favorite way to eat oatmeal! You can do it so many ways (my favorite is chocolate pb) and its so easy. Check out oatmeal artist of you want more ideas, she's a blogger and I use a ton of her recipes.

    I'll reply too- overnight oats are amazing. I wouldn't make mine in advance too far though. They're super easy to make, so just do them the night before.

    My favorite is anything that involves peanut butter in them! I love the cold, thick texture of them.

    I've been reading about them for a few years and just tried it a couple of days ago. It was fantastic. I followed a recipe posted on here and loved it. It calls for oats, almonds, cinnamon, bluberries, raspberries, cut up apple with skin, and milk. I used dried blueberries and frozen raspberries. PS I was afraid to try, because I hate mushy oats, but they were perfect.

    I make mine the night before - I think the texture would not be appealing after a couple of days using my method, but since I have never done it that way, I really cant compare - I use equal parts yogurt and oats, and literally just mix together and stick in the fridge till the next morning. You can eat it cold, room temperature or warm it up in the micro. You can add just about anything you want to the mixture, so there are endless flavour profiles to experiment with. Give it a try!

    I want to try this but not sure what would be a good mix. And if I should heat them up the next morning. I'm a firefighter so this would be awesome in the morning when I get off work.

    Love it....in the summer. Mine is heavy on the yogurt. Always with fruit and maybe some nuts too.

    Eat them cold. Some people like them warm, but what's the point of making them in advance? Quaker's website has a recipe. I just helped with a food demo on these at work. I love toasted coconut in mine. Some other options: Nuts, chocolate chips, flax/hemp/chia seeds, nut butters, nuts, fruit, honey, maple syrup, brown sugar, jams. Peanut butter and jam is good :) So is PB, banana, walnut with vanilla. I don't like them over 3 days because they get a little mushy. Make sure to use rolled oats, and not the quick cooking ones. You can use any kind of milk, too.

    Yes, I like overnight oats way better than regular oatmeal. It's barely any extra effort to make it. You just put the ingredients into a jar, stir, refrigerate, and eat in the morning.

    How many calories do some of these end up being? Seems like it would be in the realm of 400 or so? That is too high for me to spend on oats and fruit but I an interested I guess.

    I dunno. Soggy uncooked oats are not the same as cooked oats. Just gotta try & see if you like.

    Chia seeds were a game-changer with my overnight oats. Tried a recipe without them, and then finally bought them and tried it with them. Huge difference. As the seeds soak, they thicken and give a tapioca-like texture to the oats, which I enjoy. I make mine with milk, oats, chia, some form of sweetener and PEANUT BUTTER. So delicious, and right at around 430 calories, but keeps me full until lunch though. Love that I can prep them the night before. Good luck!

    Mine are more like 200ish, because I only need a half serving of yogurt and a half serving of oats since I'm eating both. Frozen berries are pretty low cal. You just have to watch the add ins!

    I make them and I love them! I like them better then making it in the morning in a pan. My favorite is with oats honey mango cinnamon and milk. I found a recipe on Pinterest for a chocolate banana one. It sounded strange but was really good. I was worried about bananas overnight but it was yummy!

    You can eat them either way. I tend to eat them cold more often during summer and heat them a bit when its cold. Personal preference though :smile:

    @arditarose , mine is 420 calories-- 40 g protein, 7 g fat, 52 g carbs. Calories slightly different from multiplying out macros due to rounding. That's using this mixture:

    40 g oats
    29 g optimum nutrition vanilla protein powder
    6 oz 2% Fairlife milk
    140 g frozen blueberries

    Totally depends on how I make them. I've found that using plain Greek yogurt just makes them too sour for me, but if I use a non sour base to start with (like Oikos triple zero), it's good.

    But yeah, it's got to be steel cut oats, or bleh.

    Pick a recipe, try them. What could go wrong? You find out that you don't care for them and then try something else? I make up 5 days worth over the weekend. They are still good on Friday. During the cooler/colder months I nuke a serving for 60 seconds and have it warm. During the warm weather, they stay cold. You won't know unless you try it.

    1 Scoop (28 grams), 100% Whey Protein Powder - Chocolate
    200 ml, Coconut Milk Original
    45 g(s), Oats
    4 pieces, Milk Chocolate diced

    It ends up being 400 calories, 11g fat, 47g carbs, and 29g protein

    It's delicious, but aint no body got the calories for it. And without the chocolate peices for texture? blech.

    I had a 700 calorie breakfast this morning... 400 is my average.

    The one I made lately was 40g of steel cut oats, 1 container of Oikos Triple Zero, 2 tbsp of 1% milk, and 50g of strawberries. 300 calories, 20g of protein, 10g of fiber, and tasty too. But yeah, I have to use sweetened yogurt, or blech.

    The one I am having for lunch is only 251 calories. Strawberry/Banana and it looks good. Hope it taste as good. I have started to get a little bored with the same ole light things for lunch, so wanted to try something new. Here is my recipe, I did not put the fruit into it, doing that at lunch:
    0.50 cup fresh strawberries
    0.50 cup dry, Old Fashioned Oats
    4 oz, Organic Almond Milk (Unsweetened)
    1 tbsp(s), Organic Nonfat Greek Frozen Yogurt
    1 tsp(s), Vanilla extract
    0.25 Small Banana
