Any fellow PCOSers, let lose the weight together!!

Hey ladies, I've been a member of the fitness pal app for some time now. It really helped me keep track of thing losing weight. I lost over 50 lbs a couple of years ago, we'll 20 of it has slowly creeped back. Now just dealing with the horrible symptoms of the pcos. I tell you weight makes a difference. I'm working to get that 20 back off again to be relived of these symptoms. I also have included alot of supplements to help the insulin resistance and curve my sweet tooth. I have done lots of research with the pcos and insulin resistance. It really is harder for us PCOSers to lose that weight due to our body wanting carbs to get rid of the extra insulin floating around due to our cells not being able to process the insulin and carbs to give us energy. I'm not taking metformin as it is super super bad for your kidneys. Trying some other supplements, if anyone wants to talk or be pals!! I'm here looking for support and offering support as well!!

Yep. I've got PCOS. Didn't know about the extra insulin. All I know is my endocrinologist diagnosed me with it. My symptoms are hair on the chin, hair loss, hypothyroidism, irregular periods, too much testosterone in my body/not enough estrogen, and being way overweight. My doctor has me on birth control for the estrogen and armor thyroid for the hypothyroidism. I assume I don't have diabetes. No doctor has told me so. I know it's only a matter of time if I don't change my health and lose weight.

Just my two cents... I had a kidney transplant two years ago and I was recently put on Metformin due to high blood sugar. My doctors at the Mayo Clinic aren't worried about my kidney at all. I am almost positive it is helping me drop a few pounds.

I'm 31. I lost almost 40 lbs when I was 26 and was at my lowest weight ever. I maintained it with little effort for two years. When my SO and I started trying to conceive when I was 28, I went off the pill, and started gaining weight uncontrollably despite continuing to run 50+ miles a week and using MFP. I went to the doctor and found out that my PCOS had been suppressed by birth control for the past decade, and was now out in full force. My only options were to go back on birth control and give up on having a baby, or to deal with the weight gain and fertility issues. Over the past 2.5 years, I've gradually gained nearly 50 lbs. =( Hoping to learn a few things from my peers on here--I had not heard about the insulin resistance issues before. I hope some of you can educate me. I miss my old, energetic, happy self.

I hear you!! My system when haywire when I went off all my hormones to try and have babies, I had two losses due to my eggs not being mature enough, I gained like 60 lbs and it was a struggle to get it off after my two healthy baby girls were finally born!!

Hey, you can put your story right with mine. Crazy how all the hormones control things, but I think in return is how my hormones got messed up naturally. Being on birth control since I was 17, due to endometriosis. Hit me like a brick when I went to get pregnant, got the hypothyroidism, pcos, insulin resistance, weight gain of 60. They all go hand and hand. They are symptoms of this syndrome. DON'T GIVE UP ON THAT BABY!! took me 4 years and two losses but I got my two beautiful girls out of it. I went to the fertility specialist. They helped me tremendously. Explained everything that is happening. With the PCOS your ovums are not mature enough to create a baby. My doctor told me to exercise, even just walk for 30 min straight. Exercise is what allows our "sugar doors" on our cells to receive the insulin with the sugar for energy. He explained just like a runner, after thirty minutes of running, they almost get thier second wind. Due to it flooding our cells with sugar, "energy". I did take metformin for a little bit to help with the androgen and insulin. Seem to help, but it was cool, each month, I got to go in for a ultrasound to check my egg dropping to see if it was viable. He would say don't try it, or good one, go for it. So yes, dropping a little weight and exercising does help control the symptoms. But sometimes we need a little extra help from the specialist. I wish you luck!!

Hey, sorry to hear of your story. I was on metformin for a while too. It's just a drug that uses a little extra help from the kidneys to filter. I am looking to redeem myself naturally, without harsh drugs and bc. There are alot of medicines that are not great for your kidneys if your compromised. I always just say certain meds are bad for your kidneys, due to it having them work a little extra to filter. But like I said if your GFR is good your body is able to filter normally.

I hear you sister!! I have everything you have. Unfortunately for me, I am not able to take estrogen for the pcos, on progesterone, due to family based estrogen breast cancer. But yes, it helps control the androgen level in your system. Which creates the hair growth, cystic acne. I am on levothyroxin or synthroid for my hypothyroidism. We don't have diabetes but insulin resistance is sometimes a precursor for it. Most PCOSers have insulin resistance. I got alot of my knowledge just from researching. Docs sometimes don't tell you much about the rest of the diagnoses. But we can lose it!! I'm heading back on track again, and alot of my symptoms just in the few weeks have subsided just not by putting alot of sweets, pop etc in my system. It's hard starting out but I'm just now feeling good, and not hungry cause I have shrunk my stomach!
