Need Advice

Hello, I need some advice.

I feel like my opportunity to get help is gone. I only purge once every few weeks. I also am no longer able to restrict (even if I try) so it's not like I even have any behaviors (aside from the whole purging thing). (I used to have lots of disordered eating behaviors and I feel like now that everything is better, I can't really get help)

I don't exactly eat proper meals though (just not balanced at all) and being an adult, I am the one who has to make sure I am eating what I should but I won't. Like I don't eat much meat, sometimes no dairy. I also find cooking a burden, but I think its partially because of the whole calorie counting thing, like if I cook something I won't be able to figure out how many calories are in something unless I put in a lot of effort.

It sounds like you have some insight into your behavior. I don't know if you've been to counseling for eating disorders but I think you probably know you should.

You know what you do and don't eat.
You don't have to eat meat. You don't have to eat dairy. You don't even really have to cook as much as prepare and plan.

You can eat healthy breakfasts that all you do is add water (oatmeal) or milk ( cereal) crack some eggs in a pan and you have some protein. All very basic things.

Can you meet with a dietitian that can help you with meal planning and maybe coming up with a shopping list of easy to prepare foods? If you take a little bit of time you can pre-measure things and put them in baggies or containers so you don't have to think about it every time.

You don't have to count the calories. MFP is doing that for you. Start out by just logging the things you're eating to get used to it and see what it's like.

It gets easier but in order to be successful you will have to put forth some effort. But one step at a time makes it simpler and more palatable.

    I hope I made sense.

Hi! I understand the challenge! I have a LONG history w all forms of ED! I don't restrict anymore, haven't for quite a while, but that doesn't mean my thoughts/fantasies don't imagine how much better my life would be if I was restricting again. It has seemed for a while now that if I even THINK about restricting, without actually doing it, I'd binge. I've had tons and tons of prof help. And it is more difficult in some ways being an adult. I am in many ways in the strongest point of recovery that I've ever been. But, what I am realizing is that I still fight taking care of myself as though I was still a child. I know I should continue to normalize my eating- as in eat balanced meals, (I know what that is), don't focus on calories, continue to nourish regardless of workouts, and don't obsess over workouts.

My approach now is to mother myself. Treat myself w kindness but be clear w what I expect. Sounds nuts but it's working for me. Also, I read a book called Brain over binge. It's a great read even if bingeing is not something your experiencing.

Hugs and high fives. Continue your great work! Add me if you like!

Great advice given by Darlswife, my only question is what kind of help do you feel you can't get? If you have health care nutritionist and counselors are available, you might need a referral from your regular MD but I would really check into it. Even if you dont have health care there are clinics that have sliding scale fees for all services.Best of care you can do it, you're stronger than you think.:)

Basically I just feel like I'm not really sick enough to get help and that it's just embarrassing to bring up because if it is just going to seem like a lack of self control
