As long as you're hitting your caloric goal daily, it shouldn't matter.

There is no need to eat "up" to a specific number of grams of carbs. Aim for nutrient dense, high fiber ones and you'll be great.

That said: no, it won't hinder your weight loss.

Carbs are not essential macros, so if 80 is all you want most days, you'll be just fine!

Maintain your calorie deficit, and you will lose weight. Be sure to get adequate protein!

I recommend eating more carbs but it won't affect your weight loss whatsoever. I usually eat over 60% daily, most people stick with 40%.

most people have sensible fat and protein intakes, incompatible with >60% carbohydrate. More carbohydrate sales talk.

Good news, it won't affect your weight loss. Stay close to your calorie target (all sources) and you will be fine. The only macro I treat like a minimum is protein.

I saw pasta referred to as junk food by someone the other day, I guess the Mediterranean diet is actually a junk food diet.

    Apparently no bread or pasta.

    Filthy foods! ;-)

Personally I find pasta a really easy thing to construct a healthy balanced meal around, but I guess I'm a slob.

Is there any particular reason you're on this eating plan?

That face tells me you don't like skipping pasta, bread and potatoes. Then why are you on a plan that excludes pasta, bread and potatoes?

I think this is the misery strategy. Ban all tasty and palatable foods and the person has trouble meeting their calorie targets from sheer misery.

Your trainer is also a dietitian? If not, stick to them just for training and not nutrition advice. You can eat bread etc and still lose weight.

Honestly? There's no such thing as 'jump-starting' a diet. Some people prefer to go with structured meals when they start out because it helps them to adjust to a different way of eating, but if you don't take the time to learn how to do it for yourself, it doesn't do any good in the long run.

Carbs are not necessary to cut out unless you have a medical reason to do so. Granted, a lot of carbs are also high calorie/low nutrition choices, and you'll need to adjust for that, but pasta and bread are perfectly fine in moderation. If you're concerned, stick with whole wheat/whole grain pastas and breads. Concentrate on controlling your calories overall, not getting rid of specific parts. You'll find you need to make better choices on things to meet your calorie goal and not be hungry, but you can still fit a serving or two of chips or some warm garlic bread into your day with a little adjustment.

I think I know what are sensible fat and protein intakes for me, thanks. Carbs are the cheapest food to buy, so no need for sales talks unlike in the meat, dairy and egg industries

Here's some grains that make a good side that aren't rice, bread, or potatoes:

quinoa, buckwheat, wild rice, lentils, and barley
