A cruise made me lose weight?

So I just got back from a 5 day cruise to turks and caicos and I lost 5 pounds unintentionally. This is so bizzare to me because I ate and drank a TON and didn't work out at all (although the stairs on the ship were a killer). I honestly don't need to loser 5 pounds and now i'm trying to gain it back but has this ever happened to anyone else? I think its because i'm a huge snacker and on the ship I just ate meals and layed out in the sun. I thought I would for sure gain 5 pounds, not lose it. Anyone else?

Haha yeah, I had the same experience. I just took the stairs and only ate when necessary. Despite the drinking at nights, I still lost weight on the cruises i've been on.
  • That would be cool if you meant to lose the weight (and its good to know) - but it makes sense - you probably eat more snacking than you do at regular meals, plus the excercise.

I did a weeks cruise on a Turkish Gullet (old fashioned wooden sail boat)around the Aegean, we ate real fresh and healthy, 3 good sized meals a day, had minimal storage so stopped every couple of days to stock up, drank wine all day,:drinker: sunbathed and had a great time and lost 7 lbs .

Must be the salt air ....

You threw your metabolism a curve ball.

When you eat a steady stream of foods within a certain caloric range, then shock your system with an overboard night or two, (or three), you nudge it, and it passes the 'plateau' it's on.

Very common, and goodie for you!! YAY!!! :flowerforyou:

Wow, now we know the secret. Everybody go on a cruise. Seriously though, that's great. Wish I could afford to go on a cruise and see if it works for me too.

I always gain! I cook mostly low sodium and on the ship between the extra drinks and the difference in my eating I always retain some water.
I do love a cruise though, it's the best vacation!
  • I went on a 3 day Mexican Cruise last October for a wedding. It is the party boat out of Long Beach, Ca. Drank all day and night, food wasn't that great and I lost a few pounds too! It was just the kick I needed to continue!
