I almost went under the knife a few months ago to get gastric bypass surgery, but changed my mind due to a lot of research. So now the journey begins.

not sure where you are located.. but in Canada.. we have something that is not surgical but attached to weight loss surgery departments.. but it is medical not surgical.. they follow you the same way, drs, dieticians and exercise specialists.. you go to meetings, and are on a program and accountable.. the difference is you get to not have the surgery.. I have friends who have had the surgery and although they look great.. they do not feel great for the most part. Surgery has risks and if other options can be tried.. look into it

yes please do... I have a lot of weight to lose and am considering this myself... good luck and please check it out.. all major hospitals world wide have an obligation to try to help patients seek non surgical methods first

I'm feeling we're in the same boat. At my docs office the other day i asked about surgery. He put me on a hunger supression injection called saxenda. I'm giving it a shot, although i haven't felt much of a difference with or with out it. I'm actually trying again to count my calories and be more conscious of what i put into my mouth. I know that we can do this in time, it's just difficult to see yourself a certain way if you've never been that way.
We can do this, 1day at a time.

if you go into google.. type in non surgical bariatric clinics.. hospitals and centres thru the USA, Canada and worldwide.. there are options.. of course surgery can be a blessing for some, especially higher risks, in order to save their lives.. however.. in speaking to friends who have had this done.. one said she wishes she didn't do it.. as she still deals with cravings and did not deal with that properly before hand.. another friend has had illness issues.. but she knows someone else who has sailed thru this .. so everyone has their story.. but surgery has risks.. so good luck with your decision .. you will find a lot of help here on this site.. friends supporting each other

I just hear horror stories of people losing weight and also losing their hair, not being able to eat normal again. I at least want to be able to eat with my family on the holidays and not eat vitamins all day for the rest of my life. I've lost 80 in a yr before and eventually gained it back but now I'm motivated more than ever.

I just read a wonderful message board on here tonight from a lady who has lost 100 pounds, it took her nearly 4 years but she is one of many amazing stories of success on here.. the body needs nutrients and healthy eating in order to function the way it should.. we all know cake, cookies, chocolate, higher fat food can taste good but it does nothing for our bodies.. so switching it up and eating healthy ... and having a little bit of the yummy stuff is the way to go.. you will not feel deprived and your life will thank you

I have dear girlfriend who got a gastric bypass 10+ years ago and it was the wort thing she ever did. She now has absorption issues with trying to get enough of the proper vitamins and minerals, and has no choice but to eat several small meals daily...but that's not the worst part. The worst part is that after she had the surgery she developed an auto-immune disease (apologies but I forget the name of it right now and it's an odd one that I've never heard of before) that attacks her own system. Also, she ended up gaining back all the weight she initially lost and then some because the surgery didn't resolve the underlying problem of what she was eating and how much she was eating, etc. I strongly encourage you to to take positive steps in your life to effect the change you want without surgery! I'm not saying that it's not possible to have the surgery and maintain a healthy weight; however, every single person that I know personally who have had the surgery has gained at least part of the weight back.
