No motivation to exercise

I've just been feeling really discouraged and unmotivated lately. I'm really trying to get back into MFP, and I'm doing better about eating (still not great, but better than I have been) but the exercise part just isn't happening for me right now.

I somehow injured my wrist a few months ago and finally went in for an MRI. I have a partially torn ligament in my wrist and am going to see a doctor next week to see what the best method of treatment will be. The info I've found indicates I'll probably either be put in a cast or have some surgery to fix it. Either way, I'm off my wrist for a while.

The reason this is bothersome is because I LOVED doing Insanity! I wasn't able to finish a round for various reasons, but there's no way I can even attempt it until my wrist is healed. I liked it because I felt like I was challenged, there was variety to the workouts, and I was motivated. Now I can't do a lot of the workouts I enjoy. I can't even swim because of the pressure the drag of the water puts on my wrist.

There are only two workouts I can think of that I can do without aggravating my wrist... Walking/running or biking. This wouldn't be too bad, but I live in Florida and when it's already 80+ degrees by 6:00am I simply can't workout outside, and I *hate* walking/running on a treadmill or elliptical.

I'm sorry for the whining, but, like I said, I'm just really discouraged. I do want to try my best and take care of myself. I'm just upset that I can't think of something that I can do that I'll enjoy until this wrist situation is worked out.

Well take care of that wrist, you don't want to injure it more. Have you ever tried any kind of dance routines for cardio? That's what I do and I LOVE them!! It makes exercising fun!! :P I do a few different ones to keep it from getting boring!

 WOW! That really sucks. It's amazing how we don't really realize the amount of body parts we actually take for granted until we can't use them for a while! I am in Atlanta so I hear ya with the wholeare heat and humidity thing. You obviously can't do weights, but if you are going to the gym try the stairmaster...lean forward and read or something so your arms hang over then stick out your booty...it's an amazing *kitten* and leg workout. Try the Fat Burn and that will almost give you the illusion of running since it keeps you paced for however long you do it. I hit a plateau awhile ago and am still trying to get past it. Although it's not the same as an injury I can imagine your frustration. Also try using machines like the shoulder press where you don't need to use your hands or where your hands/wrists are stationary. If nothing else think of the rockin lower body you will have while you can't use your wrists! I know it doesn't solve the problem, but I sure hope it helps. Best of luck and let me know how you are doing. Best of luck with your upcoming surgery!

Can you wear a weighted vest or wrist weights? My aerobics teacher broke her hand and wore a 5# weight on that arm to compensate.

I dislike steady state cardio as well, so if I HAVE to do it I'll make a new playlist or load a book on tape. It's gotta be really good because I need to get amped up to do something so boring.

Stay positive :-) An injury is only a minor setback on the way to your goals!

    Like "HardBody" on facebook!!

Pics of those women are amazing!!
I saved one as my motivation pic......she is muscular but not too muscle and she just looks so happy in the pic. She isn't doing a fitness pose. She is just in her workout attire and looks like the pic was taken when she was laughing.

SO now when I feel lazy , I can look at that pic and remind myself I want to stay/be that happy!

I don't really track my food any more. I just workout =)

By the way I am in FL right now! =)

I still do my workouts int he afternoon and sometimes my MIL A/C goes out! I love the feeling of the sweat pouring out of my body! lol

Try out Turbofire! Not as tough as insanity but still a good workout and you can modify it
The dvds you probably can't do is the sculpt and tone since you use the bands. You have to aviod doing the push ups workouts...which isn't many.

Buy yourself new workout clothes or shoes and add new songs to your iPod. It's a different alternative but it might give you a different kind of motivation to go for a jog or do some other kind of exercise.

The role of exercise in weight loss has been wildly overstated. The truth is that you don’t have to exercise to lose weight. I can state that because I have lost 46 pounds without exercising at all. Being active and exercise is great for our health, but in terms of pounds, exercise contributes a little towards weight-loss.

Shortly after I started my weight-loss program, I injured my knee and could not exercise. I was desperate and thought that my chances for weight-loss were reduced to zero.

Concerned if I would be able to lose any weight without exercising, I researched this subject and found the 2009 TIME article “Why Exercise Won't Make You Thin". The article gave me a little peace of mind.

I continued with changes to my eating habits I implemented, and was happy to see that I kept losing weight. I researched this issue further, and found out that what was happening to me was nothing unusual.

If you stick to the food part you will be successful. Be proud of any change you make for a better, no matter how small it may seem. Good luck and keep sharing with your friends here. Knowing that people like you are cheering you - and holding you accountable will help.
