what are some of the best foods to eat to gain weight and be able to build muscle off of? I need something that will help me reach my goals and not force me into bankruptcy! My goal is 4-5 pounds a month.

I do not think you are serious about this . . unless you WANT to add 4-5 lbs of pure FAT!! In which case - any food that puts you into a daily calorie surplus . . .

Pretty much anything you like - just more of it.

That said, since you want to build muscle, make sure you're on a solid progressive strength program.

There are no best foods for weight gain. Get your minimum macros and micros and eat whatever you want. If you are having a hard time getting all your calories in:

My goal since I'm so skinny is to gain a little weight first then start working it into muscle, whilst keeping up my eating habits to continue weight gain.

You're just going to gain fat going that route, and you don't work fat into muscle. Get into the gym and lift and eat in a calorie surplus of 250 - 500 calories. Get around 1 gram of protein per Lb of LBM and eat your carbs...plenty of potatoes, oats, rice, pasta, etc and some good fats.

Well, pork loin is high protein and cheap. I suppose you could slow cook it, pull it apart, drown it in some pure sugar bbq sauce and slap it on a good high protein, whole wheat bun. Eat with a loaded baked potato and broccoli w/cheese.
