Tired of being fat

This is the first time I have ever done anything like this, being public about my weight and what not. Not really sure what to put here so yea. Let's see if staying up with this makes a difference or not. Starting weight is 352.2 at 8 pm 3/25/16

Feel free to add me. My diary is open so you can view it if you'd like. And yes! Make sure you get a food scale to weigh your foods! It does make a difference when it comes to weight loss. Good luck!

Just started myself... Im 5'6... Currently 213.8lbs and looking to lose about 65lbs...

It works, and for me it works pretty much exactly as fast as it says it does. for 60 days I have attempted to eat the calories it gives me in a day and for 60 days I have pretty much lost 2 pounds a week. It doesn't work faster, and only works slower if you mess up with measuring what you are eating or you lie to yourself when entering food into the diary. Its extremely easy to underestimate weights, sizes or volumes of food, so use things like a scale and measuring cups for everything. For the majority of the people on MFP there will be days where you mess up, and days where you mess up bad, don't let it derail you. If you are unsure about it, start out slow, 1lb a week for example, get used to limiting your food consumption for a while and go from there. I did 2 pounds right from the start and its worked for me, it did take some getting used to though.

    Good luck

Ok :) not as of yet. I've always done well with the no carb diet when I stick with it but always seem to fail at it after a while

I've done it once before about 10 years ago I lost 90 pounds but I can't really count that cause I was poor lol. But I gained it all back and then some when I became a truck driver. But now I'm home every night and I can stop eating all the greasy truck stop food

Ignore the diets. The diets will only get you so far before, as you say, you "fall off." Once you do, all the weight will come back--and then some. I'm speaking from the experience of watching those around me on restrictive diets (including my grandmother and my aunt). You're better off picking something you can stick with from the start.

What do you like to eat? I think it's fair to start there. I've never been able to stick to anything too restrictive. If you like a food, try to eat it--in moderation and within your calories, of course. Losing weight can be challenging, but it does not have to make you miserable. Also, pick a favorite fruit (for me it's cherries) and a favorite veg (for me, carrots) and try to eat them every day so you'll stay full! :)

Getting a food scale is an excellent idea; it will help you track how many calories you are actually eating. The first two days are usually the worst, hunger-wise, whenever I make a change in my eating habits. Drink lots of water in those first few days and you'll likely get over the hurdle.

You will probably discover that you were eating far too much, and that's ok. You don't need to cut down your calories to nothing overnight; you need to cut down sustainably so that you won't be starving.

Welcome! You want to find a way to eat which you can do for the rest of your life. Diets always end but a lifestyle continues. People recommend food scales here because we tend to underestimate high calorie food and overestimate the lower calorie stuff. Feel free to add me as a friend if you'd like. MFP works if you create a healthy, sustainable plan for yourself with a reasonable calorie deficit.

Good luck man! my best advice to you if you do well on low carb diets is to track your food heavily and pay attention to your carb count and try to up the amount of lean protein you intake. Protein takes more energy to process and keeps you full longer. Another important one is sodium. You'd be surprised how much of the weight you think is fat is just your body retaining massive amounts of water. I started paying attention to sodium alone and dropped almost 3 lbs in a week. Also don't start with drastic changes. I'm from the south so it took me years to find healthy recipes that I enjoyed. Keep a journal of vegetarian or paleo meals that you enjoy. Over time you can make your diet healthy. That slow and steady motto also goes for exercise. Get one of the new step monitors that sync with the myfitnesspal app and set a low goal for yourself everyday. They begin to increase it. Find sports that you actually enjoy. Personally I hate running but I can do racquetball or bike all day. Losing weight shouldn't feel like a burden.

I'd suggest going ahead and picking up a $15 digital scale at Walmart or some other discount shop. The big trick here is starting out by really knowing how much you are eating and with higher calorie foods it can make a difference. I don't count now except when I'm losing weight and have been at close to maintenance for a couple of years. I used mine as a learning tool and it was a big help. I'm not saying it's critical but it can be eye opening.

    Good luck

Good luck to you! I was at 331 myself, and now I'm down to 256. I still have a lot more weight I want to lose. Just keep it up, log every bite, and keep moving.

Yep, get yourself a food scale. Measuring cups and spoons are horribly inaccurate.

If you do this every day you will lose weight. You just have to persist even when you get frustrated. You CAN do this!

Hi, and welcome! "No carb" sounds unhealthy, sure you mean "low carb"? Anyway, a plan just doesn't work if you can't stick with it "forever". That's why we in here "preach" moderation and not cutting out anything you love. All you need to lose weight, is a calorie deficit. MFP tells you how much to eat to achieve that. It works if you use it correctly. Throw away those measuring cups and weigh and log everything!

I would get a scale as well. I weigh meats and items that can't be measured in a cup. It's so handy! I've used it for years.

Wow, I honestly was not expecting so much support, it's a nice change. So I'm gonna go to Wal-Mart after work and buy a scale is there any features that I should try and get? The sports I play are Disc golf, normal golf, and ride my quad, but unfortunately I need to lose weight to really do those again cause it kills my back doing them. I did just buy a bowflex tread climber which is an amazing machine. I think that was all the questions, but I'm sure I missed some. :)

I would just get a basic scale. I've had the same one for years. I couldn't make it without mine from day to day. It's so easy to eat too much meat, nuts and such if I don't have something to weigh them on.

Look for one that weighs in grams and ounces, and has 1 gram increments, and a tare function. Any modern scale should do that, as well as display negative values, which works a bit like magic - you can place a jar of peanut butter and scoop out, until you see the correct amount with a - in front of it :D

Any functions like "weighs in ml" and "intelligent scales" that "knows the calorie count of the food you put on it" are scams - a milliliter of water weighs one gram, but that doesn't mean 1g=1 ml is correct for all fluids. You are probably going to log your food in the food diary here, so any additional, error prone gimmicks will just be annoying (would be for me, anyway).

Just get one that works. Most of all of them give you a choice of grams/ounces. Just buy something inexpensive. I've broken at least 3 so I don't like spending much on them.

Throw some strength training into your program. There are quite a few good programs out there but a basic 5x5 barbell program such as starting strength would do the trick.

I won't wish you luck...there is no luck involved... calories in /calories out... plain and simple... no gimmicks ,potions, powders, or pills.... weigh your food every single bite... stay within your calories and move your @ss.. doesn't matter what you do... just do a little more each day ,each week and do not eat back any calories gained from exercise... I'm in the same boat as you... started the day after xmas... weighing in at 290 lbs.... 90 days into the journey and have dropped 43 lbs... about 75 to go.... DO NOT STARVE YOURSELF.... sure way to derail .. eat what you like just keep it within you daily calorie goal....my saving grace is my fitbit... i'm so surprised how much of a motivator this little thing has been... could hardly do the recommended 10 k steps per day, now i'm doing almost 20 k... if this old fat fart can do it so can you!!!
