Does Grapefruit speed up metabolism??

So Ive been reading lots about diets and nutrition and in most weigh loss diets they have grapefruit in! Does this really help speed up your metabolism? And how much a day do you have to eat for it to help?

Nope. Your metabolism is basically the rate at which your body burns fuel to keep the ship running. If you like grapefruit, and it fits into your calories it won't hurt - but there are no "magical" foods/drinks/etc that will safely raise your metabolic rate to a point that it would be useful. I've found it's a bunch of spin words and hype to trap those who believe their weight gain is caused by their "metabolism being shut down/crap/slow"

Just thinking: 'Metabolism' isn't only the rate at which the body burns fuel, but also the rate at which it breaks food down and uses it as energy or stores it, right? Based on that a fast metabolism would mean that the body breaks food down faster and more efficiently, and if this energy is not needed at that moment it's stored as fat. Does that make sense?
