Gain a pound over night?

I have been kicking butt and lost 4.2 pounds this first week of my weightloss journey. Last night I had a cheat day for my birthday, but I didn't not go over board, I ate small portions. And made sure I still had a calorie deficit (I got a fitbit charge hr last week so I know exactly how many calories I burn a day) However this morning it says I gained an entire pound. Please tell me its just sodium? Also I did not have any alcholol. I am avoiding that at all costs, I had salad, 1 slice of bread, a few pieces of Texas Tonion and half of my half portion of Parmesan crusted chicken at Longhorn steakhouse

Many years ago I lost 60 pounds over the course of a year. If you weigh yourself daily, some days WILL show an increase (yes, even a pound or more) when you are still losing weight overall. Variations in fluids and digestion will do that. Also, when starting weight loss, you lose the first few pounds more easily. 4.2 pounds in a week is a LOT. I wouldn't expect that rate to continue--not if you want to stay healthy.

My secret to losing that weight before was to just keep doing what I was doing, even with daily fluctuations and plateaus where it seems like nothing is "happening" for a week or so.

It's just the water. Sodium isn't the only agent causing water to collect.

I'm quite on track with wt loss but I notice .5 to 1lbs fluctuation happens easily. Don't stress.

Just Keep at it. It will fall back off. Water/sodium, haven't pooped, TOM. A lot of things at play there. I gained 2 pounds yesterday and I didn't even eat out. I know I didn't exceed calories without a doubt. Just have to wait it out although I know it's a little disappointing. I use an app called happy scale. It tracks your weight if you want to weigh daily and shows a trend line so you don't get discouraged with the fluctuations. Hang in there!!

    It's water.

In what way is it a cheat day if you stick to your calorie deficit?

As everyone said, it's water weight.

I also want to add, just because you have a Fitbit HR, doesn't mean you know exactly how many calories you burn a day. All devices provide estimates. The estimate may end up being on point for you, many people find the Fitbits to be highly accurate, but there are some who find they over or underestimate by a couple hundred calories. Just something to keep in mind. Measure your progress over several weeks and months, not days.

If you accurately logged for the past several days, you can use the Reports function to see your sodium trend. An upward spike in sodium should tell you that the "200mg Sodium = 2 lb water" rule is in effect.

Speaking of restaurant chicken ... Last night at Romano's Macaroni Grill I ordered a side salad. The server suggested that I have her add some chicken to make it more filling. I asked that she verify if the chicken was natural or saline-injected. If natural, yes. If saline-injected, no. She came back a few minutes later with the salad and said that the chicken was injected. I suspect all local restaurants of using such salt-added chicken, which is ridiculously excessive.

    It's water.

In what way is it a cheat day if you stick to your calorie deficit?

Cause I ate foods that are not "clean eating" ;)
