'toning' is losing bodyfat, so you need to be in a calorie deficit

As for exercise, doing some strength/resistance training will help you retain muscle

If you have dumbbells use those for your upper body. For lower body, I suggest squats and lunges. Do them adjusting the width and set of your feet. The way you stand works different parts of the lower body. If you have a ball (I don't know what these balls are called), use it to do crunches. Lay on the ball with your lower middle back mostly on the ball and then do a crunch. Using a ball makes you work for stability which makes the crunches harder. I work with a trainer and we do different variations of the above. I have seen a huge difference in my strength and toning.
