How to lose wait while on fat gaining meds

Options
Hey i am really struggling atm. I had my 3rd baby 18 months ago and needed 2 operations the week she was born on my kidney. So a lot of different meds, physical restrictions and now the weight I was 8.5 months pregnant i am miserable. Docs won't help me lose weight cos they say my body has been through enough with the constant complications and infections and operations the last 18 months docs say i need to eat more to build my body up. But i can't stand how i feel. I am getting married again in spring so i guess i just want some advice on ideas i can do.

So do you expect anyone here to advise you in some way contrary to the advice you were given by your physicians who probably are in a much better position to advise what is presently good for you. If they say your body has been through too much and is exhausted, maybe you should listen to them and actually prioritise your health?

I don't get it....I went through months of chemo and talk about exhausted! Docs told me to exercise regularly to build strength... which exactly what exercise does. Ask your doc specifically what you are allowed to do and what to avoid.

I'm fairly certain your new husband and your children would rather have you a little overweight and alive, rather than thin and in a casket.
    Listen to your doctor.

Your body may not be ready to handle exercise right now, but much of weight loss is diet. Obviously your doctor knows your whole health picture so you can certainly ask them if it would be safe for you to cut back on calories which would help you lose weight.

Listen to your doctor!!! If you have been through multiple surgeries, your body is healing and you need calories to help heal.

No one here in the right mind would give you advice to disobey your doctors. Listen to them, your body has gone through enough. They will tell you when it's safe.

Speak to a psychiatrist. It sounds like you have some body image issues that would cause you to act in ways that could potentially damage your health. If your doctor tells you that you should eat properly instead of trying to lose weight and you want to do exactly the opposite because you have a problem with the way you look, I think that you need to seek professional help to teach you how to properly love yourself. Considering that you had a baby not too long ago, you could be suffering from post-partum depression.

Oh good, I wasn't the only one.

Seriously OP, listen to your doctor and/or speak to a psychiatrist.

I'm in agreement with the majority but I do believe you still can become healthy while on your meds. The docs may be having concerns with your strength and recovery from so many surgeries. Which is true, so no need to try and jump into some strenuous excersice program.

However, you should take this opportunity to get your diet in check and make some really good food choices.

A lot of meds you may take require foods. So when you take these meds, take them with a healthy meal.

Consult with your doc and let them know you want to begin eating a much lighter healthier diet. And you want to work yourself up to a small fitness activity like walking, swimming or water aerobics.

They may even refer you to a nutritionist or dietician that will help you balance your recovery and your desire for weight loss.

Thanks everyone. I have had a rough time and have needed a kick in the butt! So thankyou everyone. Yes i do have body image issues (i suffered from an eating disorder as a teen. It wasn't about being skinny it was about being desperate for control! I was diagnosed with lupus at 15 which is now in remimission but i felt like i NO control over my body and whether i ate or not i could control) so every so often i struggle with the loss of control over my situation. I know i need to listen to my specialists i was just having a shocking day. So thankyou everyone for reminding me how stupid i was being.

Yeah i don't. The dietician checked my diet out the other day and said she can't fault it. So she said when my body gets stronger it will probably lose the weight naturally

I also have lupus and yes, the meds they give us cause severe weight gain. Steroids, antidepressants, sleeping pills, all kinds of crap. Had kidney problems that nearly killed me when I was pregnant also. Just eat as healthy as your able to. If they don't want you too exercise yet just wait. Ask if your at least allowed to walk. And try to talk your Dr out of steroids. The day I quit the steroids was the day I began losing. And make 100% sure your on the correct antidepressants. Good luck!

OP didn't say she couldn't exercise. She said she was told not to lose weight, which I interpret as calorie restriction. So eat healthful food, lots of fruit & veggies, start walking & other light exercise. All that will help you feel much better.
