Losing Weight After an Eating Disorder

Hello! I'm Addy, an 18 year old from Texas who has just recently decided to try to lose weight again. I'm currently 5'4" and 205lbs. My goal is to get somewhere around 130.

Five years ago I began my battle with an eating disorder, and I recovered just 2 years ago. During and after recovery, I went from weighing 110 to 215. Since recovery, I've tried to lose weight numerous times (for health reasons), but almost every time I end up going back to my eating disordered habits: skipping meals, working out excessively, and a few other not so pleasant things, and eventually I just give up and go back to my previous ways. This time I'm trying so hard to just lose weight "normally" and not take things to extremes!

Is anyone else trying to lose weight after an eating disorder recovery or in a similar situation? I'd love to hear from you guys. And even if you're not in a similar situation but think you may have some good advice, I'd also love to hear it!

I currently suffer from Binge Eating Disorder and have started a group for people going through it as well. Eating disorders are though because we need food to live, and when food is part of your problem it is a tough thing to try to do. Learning to balance healthy eating and making sure to not eat too little or too much is tough. So welcome and good luck and feel free to add me as a friend for support if you would like.

Oh my, the feels. I went through something similar with AN and BED. I'd recommend therapy with an Intuitive Eating specialist if you can find one. If not, try out the book Intuitive Eating if you haven't already. It takes time to reform your relationship with food and your body. CICO may not be the right answer right now.

You have so much life ahead of you! If you start now, you can retrain yourself to be healthier for the rest of you life.

I will look into the book and see if I can find a specialist locally. Thank you!
