Unhealthy??

Hi, I just started the program this past Monday. I haven't been getting enough calories in the day, I usually hit almost 1000. I work from home and am a night owl, which means I sleep in pretty late. I usually wake up around 12 in the afternoon. I figured that's why I wasn't getting enough calories. I'm not awake to eat breakfast or a morning snack. I usually just eat lunch, a snack, dinner, and then an evening snack. Anyways, I weighed in this morning and I lost 7lbs! How can I have lost 7lbs since Monday? Is this okay?
P.s I weigh 260lbs, so I know its supposed to come off fast in the beginning, but damn..

    I think a lot of people shed water weight in the first week or so. 1000 seems pretty low though, I would try to get a few more calories in. Are you not hungry ever?

    It's probably a combination of water weight (bloat) and fat.
    It's fine! I did the exact same thing, only it was 8 lbs.

    I lost 13 pounds my first week on a diet...started at about 242 I think...

    Thanks, I didn't even think about water weight! I know 1000 cal. sounds like so little but I swear i'm eating. For lunch ill eat a piece of whole grain bread with an egg, a sprinkle of low fat cheese with some fruit on the side. Then for dinner ill have a small baked meat with a sweet potato and veggies. Those are just examples, but I am eating. I'm not sure why the calories arnt adding up. I think it may be because of me only eating two meals with small snacks in between.

    You could try regular cheese rather than low fat. It's higher in calories and tastes better, in my opinion!

    The calories aren't adding up because you are cutting out the fat. Use full fat dairy, use olive oil to cook your veggies, etc.

    The problem with 1000 calories is that it isn't likely to be sustainable. People who do function on that severe of a calories restriction need to be under medical supervision because of the issues that it could cause.

    You might want to think of your first meal as breakfast even though you get up at noon. Then go from there. I had the same problem with eating enough calories. It will take some time but you'll get there with your calorie count. Good Luck, take it slow.

    Are you snacking?
    If you feel like you're getting full, and you're fueled for any workouts, you are fine. I wouldn't worry too much about the numbers!

    This my exact concern. The weekdays, when I'm counting every calory, I'm hitting way under my goal (1,500). But that's fixed during the weekends when I have my cheat day :/ idk I'm concerned if it's healthy at all.

    I'm no expert by any means, but I feel like this balances out. Some days you eat more, some days you eat less. If you're happy, staying full, etc. it's probably just fine.

    1000 is kind of low, but that's just what I hear from my fiance and MFP. maybe try throwing in a few more fruits and veggies! That's what I usually try to do if I'm having a lower calorie day! Avocado, broccoli, strawberries, bananas and oranges are a few of my go-tos! Since I started running regularly again, though, I'm usually hungry enough to fill out my calories! :smiley:

    It's common and healthy to look at your calories from a weekly perspective instead of a daily perspective. Gives you lots of wiggle room to treat yourself :)

    One of the big deals is If you eat too little you can lose weight too fast and lose too much muscle in the process.
