Feel like giving up

So I have been seriously making another attempt to get back to a healthy weight for last 9 months (after 10 years of on and off dieting). Lost only about 17lbs, with 28 more to go. Been stuck for last 1 month with 0 progress. I am so sick and tired of getting up every day and watching what goes in my mouth, counting calories, fighting with myself to not reach for that chocolate bar. Its so tiring and frustrating when I see no results week after week. I am not eating "too little" calories, if I am hungry, I eat a fruit. I can't work out any more, if I add another workout I am usually too tired to do anything else afterwards. I see no way to move out of this plateau, feel like just giving up now.

Just fruit is generally not satiating, try to replace it with or add it to real meals with protein/fat/vegetables.
Do not buy foods you don't plan to eat.
Don't count on exercise for weight loss - exercise to get fit; eat to lose.
Plateaus don't really exist - weight loss can take some time to turn up on the scale, or you are eating at maintenance, difficult to tell sometimes, but tendencies to "cheating", or exhausting workout routines can be a hint.
Eating the right amount of calories is important. 1200 calories is for small, old and sedate women. 28 pounds should come off at the rate of no more than one pound per week.

Sounds like you've lost all your joy! Your post does make it all sound like a horrible grind. I think you need to switch focus and find something enjoyable to do. Do you like cooking? If you do - trawl through websites to find interesting, healthy alternatives to your favourite meals/treats. Cooking can as be as enjoyable as eating (sometimes!) Teach yourself salsa or martial arts (or even better, go somewhere that teaches you). Set yourself some targets - from simple aims (e.g. so many steps a day...basic pedometers are cheap to buy) - to advanced (e.g. train for a long distance run). These are just examples - my point is this - the more you focus on food, the more you obsess about it and can think about nothing else (which means it's a bore when you have to repeatedly deny yourself). Think about what you can bring into this process that will give you some happiness. Then do it! Hopefully it will start a virtuous circle of motivation, and stop the rut you find yourself struggling with. Best of luck.

    Beautiful! <3
There was no way I'd have ever transformed my life doing stuff I detested.
The journey was always a challenge, but I began to enjoy the process. And yes, there were times when I hit walls that seemed like the invincible enemy.
That's just your body saying "hey, what's going on?"
One huge change was when I began juicing to flood my body with nutrients. The leftover pulp blended well with a smoothie or baked into fabulous breads. I have totally lost my taste for "sweets"...and soda is like drinking Molasses.
Over time your tastes will change as well as your results, but STICK WITH IT! :)

Good Luck...and thanks for commenting! That took courage...

No such thing as a plateau. You are just eating too much and doesnt really sound like you are trying hard enough.

Big5BigChange - thanks that was a beautiful post, very true. It has become a horrible grind. It was fun for a while when I could see weight coming off and dresses fitting better. But now it's a every day struggle. I do enjoy cooking, and cook all my meals to make sure they are balanced. I will try to focus on something else for a month. Thanks everyone else also for words of encouragement.
